Sex Advertising Issues and Work Changes...
Hello again!
Well I just got out of class not too long ago and I was deeply intrigued about a film I just watch. It pertains to the degradation of women when it comes to sex and how image is being use in our society to portray beauty in terms of how "skinny" or "light" skin girls etc. I was in awe by the different perceptions I heard. My instructor and I stay after class talking about this. We both agree and understand that industries/firms/corporations etc are doing this for the sole purpose of earning a profit. They have to create these ideas to elude our fantasy in order to gain that profit. I have seen magazine ads etc particularly the pornographic ones where certain women are hose down by either a tie, rope, etc and to some, it illicit one's sexual desires. In one way I saw it as a sexual fantasy to be taken and dominated by someone. (And I have spoken with people who do find this experience thrilling and exciting!) However, I never really view it much as a means of submission or the inequality that exists between a man and a woman. I'm not going to judge upon those who do enjoy it but I'm also going to keep in mind the other perceptions that exist about this. There were also young girls around the age of 11-14 who were there speaking about how they wish they can look like those "skinny" girls on tv commercials, magazines, etc and how they aim at achieving this as they get older (unbeknownst to them that almost all of them are airbrushed, tweaked, manipulated, etc as far as their body image goes). I don't know but I found this topic to be interesting.
Besides that, I had a test this morning for advertising management. I must admit, I didn't study as much as I wanted or intended to but I don't feel as I did that bad. We'll see next week though. I'm also putting rocks on my backyard and some grass for the dogs. I'm very excited about that yet tired though due to the physical labor I had to put in :-/ (with beauty comes a price...irony?!) lol.
As far as work goes, I found out not too long ago that my department is being consolidated into 2 other departments creating this one big department call "customer relations". I really do not know how is this going to be played out and some of the on-calls fear that they will be laid off...well not even the on-calls..people with the lowest seniority are also worried about this change. Since I'm mainly in the "vip" department, my position would not be changed as much but I know there will be some slight changes. I also found out that my supervisor that I normally work with will be putting in her 2 weeks in a few. She told someone and that person inadvertently told me (but I'm really good at keeping things hush hush except for you guys haha :-p). This is going to be in effect next month so we'll see how this plays out.
But I'm about to relocate to another area since the internet is lagging so much here. I can't wait to read your journals and see what you guys been up to! I'll be back xoxo
