Ok, I'm not one to rant and rave about Politics. I don't feel the need to start huge political debates often, and refuse to unless I have all the facts...
Here's a fact: The governing body of the CITY OF DETROIT EATS HAIRY NUTSACKS!
Ok, we all know the story: They are planning to close down the Detroit Zoo. Why? The Detroit Zoological Society has been pleading for months to undertake the task of maintaining and managing the zoo. City Council refused the proposal. Why? Apparently, they didn't like the way the proposal was worded and felt that city money would be better spent somewhere else. Oh, and I'm sure you've heard this little gem of wisdom from Councilwoman Barbara-Rose Collins:
"The symbolism is that Detroit is a black city and that we're unable to govern ourselves. So we need an overseer, the state legislature, or what have you, to step in and tell us what we must do and how to do it. That is a racist attitude. I resent it very much. I'm trying not to let it color my judgments, but we're not a plantation, blacks aren't owned by white folks anymore."
WHATTHEFUCK?!?!
I'm sorry, it's not that you're black.... it's that you are a corrupt government who cares more about how each individual member will benefit rather then worrying about the community. I CARE ABOUT THE CITY OF DETROIT AND ALL OF ITS INHABITANTS, AND I CARE ABOUT THE ZOO AND ALL OF ITS INHABITANTS! How dare you try and boil this down to a race issue? It's a political issue and you are bad politicians.
Did anyone ever consider the COUNTLESS other options that could work to save the Zoo from having to close or are we too busy trying to decide which race is better? it's good to see that we have learned anything from the last century.
DID YOU KNOW: The Detroit Zoo is one of the ONLY ZOOS IN THE NATION that ACTIVELY WORKS TO RESCUE THE ANIMALS THAT CALL IT HOME??! The Detroit Zoo houses animals other zoos will not take: animals that have spent their lives in the cruel circuses, animals that are "too old" for other zoos, animals that have been rescued from death and other ill-fates. It's sad that an institution that worked so hard to rescue its inhabitants is in need of rescue now itself.
Not only that, the Zoo is one of the only TOURIST ATTRACTIONS Detroit has left. What is going to happen after it's gone?
I've been a member of the Zoo for over 2 years now. I'm devastated over the possible closing and all of the petty drama surrounding it. This is why Detroit will never again be a great city.
