Being domestic...

So, I got my substitute ID card today. Yays.

Am also trying to bake bread. TRYING. The first time I made it, it was too salty. Mike suggested that if I cooked it for another hour, I could make hard tack. *shakes fists* (I followed the directions, I swear!)

Sooo... I cut the salt in half and tried again. It rises ok, but when I put it in the oven to bake it... collapses. Maybe I'm not letting it rise enough? It tastes like bread, but it's too dense. Maybe the yeast is too old? Who knows how long Grandma's had it in the freezer... I'm willing to bet SEVERAL years have passed since someone's used it.

Oh well. After this, I shall bake cookies. THOSE I can make. ^_^

Anyway, good luck to everyone starting school! I get to wait until after Labor Day. I might go up to the mountains again this weekend. The lake is calling to me. *sigh*
