Ok it is official. I am officially sick of giving people car loans, and asking car questions that I don't know what I'm asking, and the member (mbr) has no clue if their car has it or not.
For example, me. to mbr: "Does your _______, have a 'theft recovery system'?
mbr: do you mean does it have an alarm?
me to self: how am I supposed to know, it's an extra option to your car.. probably not since they don't know what it is.
me to mbr: It's one of the extra packages you can get on your type of car, did you get it?
me to mbr: do you have the sports package?
mbr: I'm not sure... I think it does, it's got the option for "sport" or "cruse control" that you can choose.
So you think that this would cause me to actually want to know a little something about cars.. actually it's having the reverse effect. I'm sick of talking about somehting that I know nothing about so then to actually learn about it, would be anoying since I'm already sick of the topic.. so why am I talking about it now?...
2 things I've learned as a loan counselor.. 3 things that may be helpful and 2 VERY OBVIOUS things... In no particular order..
1. People are stupid when it comes to finances. (Can I get a loan, to pay off a loan that's going to collections?-- no, you've just said that you can't pay them, so why should I believe that you'd pay us?!)
2. Death is an expensive way to get out of life, although medical bills are almost as bad... Definately make sure you have enough life/credit insurance. Nothing's more heart breaking than meeting mbrs who have reciently become widowed who are now getting a personal loan for $4,000 or more, simply to burry their significant other. (did you know funerals cost that much!)
3. Divorse is a VERY messing thing. It can do terrible things to someone's credit, and credit scores are like grades... they drop quickly, and take a long time to bring back up. (aka it only takes one 0 to drop a full letter grade, but it takes multiple 100% to conteract that 0 and bring it back up.)
4. There's a reason for GAP insurance on a car loan.
