...i am giving up diet coke & fried food/laziness for lent.
a tall order, i know, but i think i can do it & i know i NEED to do it.
(the reason the fried food and laziness are connected is that i think i will be able to deserve 1 fried something a week if i have earned it through exercise and diligence all of that week...it's not a cop-out...it's realistic.---we all know how much i love cheesy fries)

anyway, i just got home from my glorious weekend down south. tell me all about it, you say? well, i don't mind if i do...

saturday morning's baby shower was a sight to behold. it was a brunch party at a very upscale house in a very exclusive neighborhood in town. the creme brulee french toast casserole was delicious to say the least. there were TONS and i do mean TONS of gifts and a couple of the hostesses unwrapped and displayed everything so that sarah could see all of it before it got loaded up to go home. so much beautiful stuff!!! i couldn't get over it. little phoebe kate is blessed already!
i left the shower and headed straight to motown...only i forgot to pack my cds, so the drive was a long one. i finally got to see blake as soon as i got to campus & then we went down to watch the college night basketball game. we sucked and lost but our cheerleaders were AWESOME!!! anywho, then we hung out with margot & nathan (newly ENGAGED) and had supper with them at zapopan before scrambling to get ready for the shows.
the shows...two words: complete opposites.
* a disclaimer: i am a gold. i always have been, i always will be. i am also a sensible and objective person. i am able to give credit where credit is due. my love of theater in general allows me to not only evaluate both shows fairly, but also enjoy them. i'm not afraid to say if i liked the purple show/costume/music/cheers...
so anyway...first came the purple show...it was painful to sit through. i have never heard such off-key singing in a musical production in my life. it was the longest hour ever and i am still relieved it is over...today. the gold show was up next. it was brilliant! very original, very funny ("just say no" is an instant classic), and very entertaining. of course it had it's slow moments, but all shows do...they have to if there is a storyline at all. i loved it...it was obvious who the winner was going to be, so it was no surprise when they called out GV!
after the shows we headed to the party at eclipse (or so we thought)...we quickly realized that there was no gold victory party at eclipse and they were indeed closing at their normal time. so we finished our drinks and went to the follow-up party at the blue house. it was CROWDED...awkwardly crowded...so crowded that if the house had caught on fire i'm not sure a lot of us would have made it out. we finally got home around 2:30 and crashed hard.

sunday we had high hopes for going to church but after such a late night, it just didn't happen. blake, logan, & i went to full moon for lunch (YUM!!! chicken fingers & a side salad...ooh, baby!). then i had another baby shower for sarah in liberty park so blake and i went to sarah & michael's house and i rode with sarah and mama pucci to the shower. again, lots of gifts & lots of love. blake picked me up from the shower and we drove straight to sylacauga to spend the night with his parents. they had a feast waiting (as usual)--4 courses: crab claws; peel and eat shrimp; bacon wrapped bbq shrimp; and pasta tossed in a butter sauce and topped with sauteed shrimp....this was all accompanied by a yummy glass of wine and followed with a helping of homemade old-fashioned banana pudding. needless to say, i felt like i was going to pop.

monday was the day of blake's super secret valentine's day surprise date...we got up "early" and had breakfast at his parents house and set off for bham around 11. we ate lunch at o'carr's (one of our favorites) and then kept driving...and driving...and driving. blake (notoriously bad with directions and lacking a sense of direction) admitted that we were lost but didn't want to ruin the surprise and tell me where we were going... it was nice to be lost together though. we just drove around holding hands and listening to music while we looked at fancy houses in mountainbrook, brookwood, etc...finally, we found it! THE ZOO!!!
we spend at least 3 hours there just meandering around. the weather was beautiful and it was so nice to spend time with eachother without keeping track of the time! am i a lucky girl or what??? anywho, i came back to reality with the reminder that we had to avoid 5o'clock traffic...living in huntsville had broken me of my innate time awareness that comes from living in greater bham for 6 years
...so anyway, we went to sarah & michael's and played with the puppy for a while...i fell asleep on the new leather couch for a good 45 minutes, we watched tv & then we headed back out into bham. we putzed around for a while and then met jess and chris at CPK for supper. it was so fun to be on a semi-fancy double date! it's been a while for sure. after that we were pooped so we headed back to sarah & michael's and went to beddy-bye.

tuesday morning blake left early for school so i got to sleep in and wake up whenever i woke up. i got up slow, ate some cereal, and then spent the day with sarah doing girly stuff and going on baby errands. it was SO nice to have girl time without a time limit or list of boring stuff to do/responsibilities at home. we had lunch, ran errands, and just in general bonded. it made my day! i am so grateful to have a friend who is so much a sister and so permanent in my life!
when we finished girl time i got back on the road...destination: montevallo. i met blake at logan's and we all hung out until margarita night! gotta love the zapopan!!! not to mention it was a good send-off for lent because as we all know, zapopan has the BEST diet coke and i am quite addicted.
we crashed margot's mardi gras party in tut after zapopan and then went to bed early again.

...now i'm home...
sorry it's such a long post...i was just so busy this weekend!!!
& i'm proud of myself because the first thing i did when i got home was change my clothes and take timber for a 45 minute walk around the neighborhood. not only did i choose to exercise (a'la lent promise) but she was not too strong for me to handle! (even though she does try to chase cars...)

i'm gonna go take a rest by the tv...if i fall asleep, i fall asleep...so be it.

*me

p.s. even more good news: blake is coming to visit this weekend!!!
