David Tennant's a trained Shakespearean actor - give him fine and layered words to say and he will reduce the viewer to emotional toast. I know, I know, I keep forgetting that it's a family show rather than a 'me and my interests' show, but kids understand Shakespeare when they see it on stage; they can be entertained by and understand complex dialogue (which doesn't necessarily have to revolve around double entendres.) Give the man something to say about Gallilfrey other than that it's 'gone'. Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks may have had WTF in spades, but one of them (can't remember which) had a line which went something like,'I was there at the fall of Arcadia'-very simple, very poetic=hair rising on the back of the neck (or maybe that was just me?)
Re: Eleventh Doctor, I do have my fingers crossed for Ten staying, but your mention of 'Love and Monsters and a female doctor in the same post gives pause for thought because OMG Shirley Henderson for Eleven! She'd be brilliantly snarky and withering and sweet all at the same time...
