For those of you that sew and travel on airplanes. . .

What are the rules regarding sewing (and bringing sewing notions, like scissors or sewing needles) on airplanes? I remember back in 5th grade 2 days after 9/11 this boy in my class was flying home from somewhere and TSA took his scissors (which is why he never had scissors the rest of the year. It was incredibly annoying, because he always had to borrow somebody else's pair). I fly into Germany on Monday, and I need something to do on the 11-hour flight besides eat airline food and watch crappy airline movies.

Oh, and does anybody have any suggestions for small, time consuming and portable sewing projects? I need something that will fit in my cramped luggage/carry-on but also keep me busy for a while.

ETA: I found some info about crafts and airlines on this site, although apparently the TSA has a lot of contradictory policies. :-P
