Back from Vacay

I got back from Victoria yesterday evening, but I was just so drained that I literally collapsed in a heap of exhaustion on my bed. I've been slowly recovering today, although I still feel a bit tired and lacking energy. Since daddy and I had such a limited time there (really only 2 days), we pushed ourselves to do a lot and are therefore still recovering. But we did and saw so much (including the Royal BC Museum, the Empress Hotel, and a Polish deli) and it really was a great mini-vacation.

As for Canada, I'll just say that Canadians have a different way of doing things, and leave it at that. Of course, I knew this from the getgo since I've traveled to Canada many times before (my granny use to live there before heading over to Hawai'i), and the entire American side of my family has spent a significant chunk of time in Canada (I have an uncle who even has dual citizenship). But, daddy and I tried to assimilate into Canadians as much as possible, and worked on our "Canadian accents" by adding "aye" to the end of every sentence. We never really ended up sounding like Canadians (especially my Polish father), but we had fun in the process.

On the drive back home from the ferry, we stopped downtown and I got this gorgeous blue velvet vintage hat. I actually saw this hat on Saturday when Nona and I were shopping, tried it on, but didn't get it. Well, I just could not stop thinking about it, and since the antique shop is on the way home, we stopped by there and luckily they still had the hat. It fits perfectly (almost like it was made for me!) and is so adorably 1950s. I also have a dress in the works that would be perfect with this hat.

I watched Mona Lisa Smile last week and I think that's why I've been in a 1950s mood over the past few days. I've actually been working on a novelty 1950s dress that I'll post more details about tomorrow, but I've extended my computer time a bit longer than I wanted and now must log off . . .

1950s, hats and bonnets, travel
