Things I have learned after Day One:
1) If you don't want to spend any money on your house, don't look too closely at anything.
2) When replacing screening, using fiberglass instead of aluminum will save about 45 minutes of headaches. Unless you're a professional or extremely patient, chances are, you're going to end up switching once you realize what a pain in the ass aluminum is anyway.
3) Neighbors who are getting rid of furniture and dishes will quickly become your best friends.
4) There is the correct way to grout tile...then there is MY way to grout tile. Both ways come out looking beautiful, but if I was a host on This Old House, I would be fired in about 5 minutes.
5) Project management skills can come in quite handy when you have competing priorities for immediate repairs and only $500 to work with. If you don't already have them, learn them.
ETA: In number 4, I misspelled beautful as "beautifuk." Is it really obvious that I had a rough day?
