Her Life Was a Dream... Until She Got la Grippe

Three cheers for last weekend!

Friday morning I found out that my bid had won some tickets to the sold out Decemberists show on craigslist. I spent much of the afternoon post-work, looking for concert companions, and ended up with the lovely
frannyzooey,a seasoned fan. I picked up the tickets outside of my workplace in the late afternoon (but not before buying some seriously awesome boots I had been wanting).

The show was everything I could have hoped for and more. I knew it would be good, but theriouthly, guyth! Highlights included:

  • A singing contest
  • A dance Contest
  • Colin Meloy taking a random audience member's cell phone mid-song, scrolling through their phone book, calling one of their contacts and singing half of the song to the person he called
  •  A reenactment of The Charge of the Light Brigade led by three of the band members in the middle of the ballroom floor, which happened during one of the encores, which happened to be "A Cautionary Song," which happens to have been written specifically for my enjoyment
  • All of the band members ending up lying on the stage floor, still playing the crap out of their instruments at the end of said encore

  • The last encore being "I Was Meant For the Stage," and me getting ridiculously emotional about it

After the concert, I went with
frannyzooey to hang out with
slammer2012, who was in town for the weekend.  Big fun ensued, highlights included:

  • Seeing a photo of Bea Arthur's cunt
  • Everyone in The Library (East Village bar) singing along to "Hey" at the tops of their lungs when it was played on the jukebox.

Saturday day saw yummy bagels and some healthy board game playing with the two aforementioned trouble makers and some friends, followed by a Burningman Decompression party. This Burningman thingie, while at the same venue as the party I had gone to the previous Saturday, was superior in every way.  People were wearing crazy costumes and if you didn't have one, there was a place where you could create one and get your face painted (since none of the costume pieces were really "me," I opted only for the latter). There was a hookah hut and a room full of legos.  There were about 4 heated, insulated rave tents on the roof. There were live bands and there were djs.  There were people cooking and serving burgers (and veggie burgers) outside.  We saw a pregnant woman belly dance at 1:30am.  Sweetness.

I did not, however, fully succeed in getting my party all way on at the above event.  This was evidenced by the fact that I felt the need to attend yet another ravity rave, this time not at all far from my home. At party number two I hung out, met some righteous dudes, gave people lip, danced a bit, and got messed up with
sneakatdatavibe.

Sunday was spent mostly recovering from Saturday and doing all of the work (with some very generous help ; ) ) that I had been neglecting all weekend. After staying up into the wee small hours finishing said work, I awoke Monday with the illness of doom.  Poop. I had to skip work, but I went back today.  This morning, I dreamt that  my students had a substitute who made them repeat the word "organic" over and over again and forced them to dance.  In my dream there were lots of new students in my class.  When I got to my classroom this morning, there were 4 new bright-eyed students waiting for me.  Twilight Zone.  The End.
