Both articles offer explanations as to why humans are attracted to horror films; Stephen King explains in “Why We Crave Horror Movies” that we enjoy horror films simply because deep down we are mentally insane, whereas Chuck Palahnuik, in “Till Death Do We Part,” argues that humans watch horror films because they make us more comfortable with the idea that death is inevitable. However, the articles also show how social and historical context are important to how the audience receives the film and how horror films of the present differ from those of the past.
