The Magic Text Message

Last month I replaced my sad and dying phone with a new clamsehll Nokia. It's not much to look at but really a nice phone.

My first phone was a Nokia before everyone made clamshell phones. The problem was that as it bounced around inside my purse quite often it would call someone else and my purse would try and have a conversation with the person on the other end. I imagine it sounded like "mllmlllll waawaaa bump bang pinnngggg mlmlllll". The person would yell "Daisy Daaaaaaisssssy!" give up and hang up, because purses when they answer "yes?" still sound like, "mllllll waaam waap...".

One day my purse called Rachel's purse and they talked for three hours. This was around 1999 when the rate plans weren't as generous with minutes. Needless to say my purse rang up a $400 phone bill. Being that my purse only sees money when I put the bills inside it, I had to cough up all of the cash to cover the costs. I was pissed. I promptly sank $300 on a fancy Motorola clamshell phone and since then have not looked back. Odd that my purse hasn't issued on single peep since.

The thing is that Motorolla phones may have an easier menu, but every one I have had paled in comparison to the performance of my old Nokia. When the camera in my last phone broke after one year I decided I was giving up on Motorola forever. I'm glad I did because my new phone is fantastic. It has more features and it's not bare bones like the Motorolla models are.

Which leads me to the point of my rant; as I get to know the nuances of my new phone I am discovering more and more cool features. The coolest feature EVER, I discovered today, quite by surprise, it's a special little bonus perk that occurs when you send a text message.

Today I was sending my friend a text message just as I hit send, I heard his voice and I thought, "Cool!" Some kind of nifty voice verification....like, "your message has been received." Only not those words. I was sitting on the UCSD shuttle waiting to leave for work, half asleep and daydreaming, then his voice says, "Hi Daisy!" I was EXCITED. How flippin cool is that?!

Then it dawns on me...that's not my phone. I look up and there he is my friend right in front of me on the shuttle! Why is he on the shuttle? How did he get here? Does my phone have a magical portal? Wow this is fricken cool! I am gonna text message my sister and my mom and my dad and, and, and....wow. I am really gonna save money on airfare!

All I have to say is, my new magic phone is damn cool!

As we were getting off of the shuttle my friend turns to me and says, "Hey I just got a text message from you!" (No Shit!)
