Veronica
It’s the first day back after summer break and with her detective skills she has made some observations.
One is the fact the Professor Landry’s replacement does not like her.
“Her name is Professor Annesley and she is a fossil. Seriously. Next class she is handing out magnifying glasses and telling us to go find a murder mystery.”
Wallace chuckles. After never-before-seen affection from Veronica which included a girlish scream and a giant hug, the two were lounging at their old hang out spot, Java the Hut.
“Maybe the great Veronica Mars should take over the class, I’m sure she has enough wisdom to go around.”
Veronica quirks her eyebrow.
“Veronica’s pearl of wisedom for the day. Never take your friend out to eat chocolate cake on the day of their return, because they are likely to embarrass you by getting it all over their face like a four year old.”
Wallace smiles sheepishly and grabs napkin.
“There, that’s my jewel of information. It’s all you’re getting.”
Wallace shakes his head and continues eating his mudcake.
“So tell me Wallace how does it feel to be a hero now?” She asks resting her chin on her hand smiling fondly at him.
“Gratifying? Life changing? Like it’s my calling?”
“So... when do you receive a trophy for all your heroism”
“Soon. I’ve already started on my speech.” He clears his throat, “I’d like to thank my mama who always ironed my underwear. And my girl V, for ..... keeping the chocolate off my face for 3 years now.”
“Aw you are too cute,” she looks at her watch “Shoot, is that the time? Listen I gotta split, there’s this case I’m working on..” she says stealing a piece of his cake and standing up throwing her bag over her shoulder.
Wallace’s face falls.
“Yea okay.”
Veronica puts her hand gently on his shoulder
“I’ll call you. It’s great to have you back. I’ve missed you.”
He smiles at her and she smiles back. Then she walks straight out the door.
Same old V, Never could sit still for too long.
Jake Kane
Jake Kane was proud of his new house. No one seemed to pick up on the fact he always used the word house rather than home. Except of course Weedman who was trained to notice the small things no one else did. Celeste as hard as she had tried could not take him for his billions when she filed for divorce, as she so elegantly screamed she would do. She hadn’t expected him to be so cunning and you’d think after he kept his affair with Leanne secret for several years she wouldn’t have been so surprised to find that he’d kept many bank accounts hidden from her. She had been left high and dry, and a rather large part of Jake thought she had got what she had coming. He resented her sometimes - well alot of the time, for taking away everything that was important to him. She had drove Lily to act and even Duncan would have stayed or at least been around more while he was there if Celeste didn’t completely despise Veronica. Veronica. That girl, she brought out the worst in him. He could never really hate her, not after accepting her into their home as the kids close friend, but also once believing she, with her long blonde hair and big blue eyes like Lily, could be his daughter. Still, it didn’t mean this latest escapade she had caused didn’t piss him right off. Of course it was easy to lead the trail away from the Kane Estate. Jake Kane, billionaire, head of a secret society? Who’d of heard of such a silly thing. It was a great thing being a man with great power.
One thing Weedman knew was that Jake Kane was unpredictable. Weedman wasn’t a man that scared easily, if at all, but he felt it. Something in the air. Trouble was brewing and it wasn’t going to be pretty.

Veronica
Ok so she lied. To her bestfriend. Well not really lied, there was a case she was working on. It was about her - being a nut case. She had to go back to campus. She didn’t mean to be walking past Logan’s class as it was finishing, and she was most certainly not stalking him.
It’s the first day back after summer break and with her detective skills she had made some observations. Number two is the fact that after 3 months, 92 days, no card transactions or car rentals, Logan Echolls had not shown up for his class.

Kieth
Veronica stepped into her home to the smell of her dad’s musky deodorant and a turkey pot pie cooking.
“Darling daughter, how was your day?”
“Eh. Same old same old. Not quite as fast paced as the FBI, but we can’t all be stars.” She replied plopping down into the seat at the kitchen bench and beginning to flip through the mail.
“Amen to that sister” Veronica gave her father a funny look.
“What?”
“Have you been watching that nun movie again, with Whoopi Goldberg?”
“It’s called Sister Act. And yes I have. What else was I supposed to do with all the free time I had not having to chase around you and all.”
Keith froze, realising what he had said and how harsh it had sounded and suddenly the friendly banter they’d shared evaporated. He turned to look at Veronica whose eyes were staring at her hands.
“Veronica, I..”
“No dad it’s okay,” she said cutting him off, “I deserve that, if not much more.”
Keith walked around the kitchen bench and embraced his daughter, and unlike normal did she didn’t rest her head on his arm. She sat still, like a statue.
“Seriously dad, it’s ok. I get it” She said quietly. Shrugging out of his embrace she jumped up off the chair picking up her bag.
“I’ve got to go but I will be back later”, She reached beside a stunned Keith and grabbed an apple before biting into it, and giving a wave of her hand she disappeared out the door.
Keith stood there for a couple minutes wondering where her daughter had learned to suppress her feelings like that. She certainly hadn’t got it from him had she? They’d had an open household since, well since forever. But at that sudden glimpse of a girl who could shut down at the click of a finger, he started to rethink what he thought he’d known all along.

Veronica walked around aimlessly around campus for 15 minutes. It was a good hour or so before her next class and she had nothing to do short of sitting in her car and waiting. She would have swung by Wallace’s and seen him, but then there was the whole situation of running into Piz and wasn’t quite ready to be strapped down to that ant hill yet. Then it hit her, she’d drop round and see Mac.
------------------------
“Mac Attack!” She greeted as Mac swung open the door to her room.
“Veronica !” She replied with just as much enthusiasm, except there was desperation behind her words, “Where have you been, we’ve tried calling you a hundred times.”
“We? My phone was off...Ough..” She said startled, as Mac grabbed her arm and pulled her into her room.
A frazzled Parker paced in front of them before swinging around to look Veronica in the eye.
“Logan is hurt.”
With that statement Veronica’s world fell down around her.
