Recently, I've really gotten into Versailles and all the ridiculous art and grandeur. It's so garish, it's wonderful!

I came across this Rococo-styled  Savonnerie rug (pictured above). YES, a RUG. made by hand. The detail blows my mind. Louis XV commissioned a series of these rugs to be delivered to Versailles, the first being in 1735, second in 1740, and last 1761. I guess the only one remaining in Versailles is in the chapel in the chateau de Fontainebleau. Another rug was acquired by Versailles last fall, but I couldn't find the current status if it was on display yet.

Can you imagine walking all over such an exquisite piece of art?
