I'm going to make this quick since I finally found a bit of time since I moved.
I am now living in South Minneapolis, in the Camden neighborhood area. So far, so good. It's been a HUGE adjustment, to say the least. I've already realized I've taken such simple things for granted, such as just putting bella outside to go potty...Now, I have had to put her in a sweater, a jacket...then I put on a track jacket, an alpha jacket, shoes.......just for a quick potty trip. Yep. I'm not in phoenix anymore. The first week I was here, it was so cold one day my car would not start. Actually, the doors were frozen shut, too. Yup. I'm not kidding. I was like -11 plus windchill or something ridiculous like that. However, the doors freezing shut was mainly due to the fact that there was freezing rain followed by snow. That made for a lot of fun of sweeping all the snow off my windshield and then scraping off the ice. Thank goodness winter is waning away. I realized the first two weeks how unprepared for the weather I really was.
The drive up was really tedious. It took us 4 days instead of 3. I gotta say, something about driving a 16 foot truck and towing a car makes you feel very capable. At one point, I kinda laughed just because I remember being weirded out about driving newer cars cause I was so used to driving a mid 60s sports car with rac-n-pin steering! Oh, how things change. Although the drive was tedious, we only had one "incident". The first day of driving, we took one wrong turn and the stupid garmin told us to turn around on this little street in holbrook, az around sunset. It ended up being a dirt road. If you've ever towed anything, you know you can't really back up. Aaron started freaking out about what to do, and I just said, "it's getting dark. We need to unhook the trailer NOW". So we start to do that, so we could back up the car, drive it up the path, back up the truck, take it up the path, and then drag the trailer up the hill. Well, that started to work.....but aaron was backing up my car after we unhooked it, and it got stuck in the dirt. Underneath the dirt was snow. Awesome. The Aerio was just spinning her wheels. Stuck. Without thinking, i start digging with a fucking 2 by 4 out of the dirt, start pushing the car, throwing fucking gravel underneath it for traction....all with no avail. We called AAA. We got a crazy towing guy to get us out. It took about 4 hours to get stuck to get out and looking for a hotel room. That was the hardest day......from saying all the goodbyes, the trailer lights didnt work (simple, but got it fixed) to getting stuck, and not even getting out of az.
The next day we drove about 15 hours and got to oklahoma city. Then to des moines. Then to minneapolis. We moved about 70% of my stuff in that day, and the remainder the next morning. We were both wrecked. I had one day off, then I started work.
I'm finally getting into the rhythm of things. It's been a lot of adjustments. It'll continue being a big adjustment. it's been really strange to go from being severely independent to having help from a boyfriend. It's been really difficult to "soften up" and ask for help with things. I don't know if I'll ever get used to that.
When I was in 2nd grade, and I was student of the week, I did what everyone else did....I talked about my family, my pets.....and picked my favorite quote....
"if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself"
i've been a firm believer of that my whole life. God, even thinking to being a second grader and I felt that way....My teacher even said "why did you pick that?" I just remember saying, "if anyone else does it, they can mess it up! You have to get done what you want done!"
I still think it's very true, but I know I have to adjust that mentality to let people into my life to help....despite how hard headed and stubborn I can be.
Oh, one other thing that's really weird up here. THE ACCENTS. Jeeeeze!
what do you carry? A BEG.
how to plants get nutrients? RUUTS.
exclaimation? OHHH JEES.
AND SUMMER IS COMING UP SO EVERYONE IS LOOKING FORWARD TO PRONTO PUPS.
YEAH, NO. THEY'RE CORN DOGS, JERKS. CORN. DOGS.
At least I got to go to the mercado this weekend and I got a really good torta, and a place that makes REAL tortillas instead of those crappy white people ones they sell at the grocery store. It really sucks not having readily made handmade tortillas at every grocery store.
It's a big adjustment for me for the time being, but it's still very interesting and a huge learning experience. I'm enjoying it quite a bit, but I miss quite a few things about phoenix. My family. My friends. My filiberto's. and turning lanes. God, do I miss turn lanes...........and streets that dont have 6 different names.
I'll post pictures later
