Hello guys. So I'm getting into the good part of my NaNo novel.
I know it sounds like I've talked about little else for weeks but that's the nature of NaNo. You get stuck into it for a concentrated period of time. Let me back up for anyone who missed the premise: I'm writing about Amber, a genetics student at a prestigious university in Ireland who just beginning to deal with the sudden death of her husband six months before when he comes back from the dead. (This was the novel I was going to write for my novel writing class this year before I got kicked out). Her two supports are Brent, who's a medical genetics student and her closest friend, and Clark, who she met when they lived next door to each other at the universities dorms. It's a flashback narrative too, which is getting really interesting because Brent and Clark in particular are so different in the past than they are in the present. And her husband, now that I'm at the point in the story where he's alive again, is really interesting too. I'm proud of the fact that's he's a likeable jerk, too, and not just some lameass dreamboat. Not that I usually write about dreamboats. ANYWAY, I'm actually aiming to hit 60,000 words with this instead of 50,000, so I'm aiming to hit 50,000 by Friday and then finish off the next 10,000 over the weekend/Monday. So that's what I'll be doing the next few days. Wish me luck!
Also, I actually have lots of stuff to link today. Wahey! (rhymes!)
- It's pretty much old news by now, but Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy money have all
been cancelled as of the last episode of their current seasons. I'm actually surprised about Pushing Daisies since it's got such a devoted fanbase now, and I like DSM so that sucks too. I just feel really, really bad for PD fans. It sucks so much for them that their show got the literal touch of death.
- Politics! Change.org has started up
a movement wherein the public can submit and vote for ideas that will in turn be professionally presented to Obama on Inaugeration Day. There's some really good ones there such as putting a stop to media consolidation and improving transport infrastructure.
- Speaking of, everyone's favourite gay Delta fan, Darren Hayes, wrote what is called a
"Myspace blog" about California voting yes on Prop 8. I love how it's all "We'd like this and this and this, and maybe this, and also a pony, but basically we want to grow old together". It's nice!
- LJ post roundup:
random ass news post,
changes to the privacy policy in regards to advertising cookies, and
reiteration for paid members of stuff previously posted. And as detailed in two of those posts the Give More promotion is on again, wherein if you buy someone some paid time they get the userpics add-on for free. I'm always up for a trade-off BTW (you buy me some paid time and I'll buy you some so we both get the userpic add-on). Also there was
scrapbook maintenance but like LJ's downtime during the move, and like most things, I think I was asleep.
I had Malaysian for dinner tonight. I always get Hokkien Char Mee which is like Singapore dark soy sauce with egg noodles and a bunch of seafoody stuff. It was delicifying. And it's my mum's birthday on Wednesday (ETA: December 10th) which we're having a family bash for on the Saturday before and going out for on Sunday, so there'll be more good food. Yay!
