a hectic beginning to 2006
definitely has been a very eventful and tiring time back. i've been back in davis since last tuesday and things couldn't be more hectic. things started out that way the moment i stepped into the apartment. gurveen called to tell me her cousin harry was down from riverside and to ask if it would be okay for all of us to have a small kick-back at my place. this "small kick-back" turned into quite the social gathering. i had a lot of fun, though. didn't even get to bed till 3:30 in the morning even though i had class at 9 the next day. it was crazy! i've been averaging close to 4-5 hours a night of sleep ever since i came back. a large part of it has to do with the fact that i can't seem to adjust to my school schedule. i guess my course load is a bit more demanding this time around. last weekend was pretty eventful. friday was the disc party. nina came down and we all went to it. it was pretty lame but i've been told by upperclassmen that disc is nearly always a disappointment. that night i didn't get to bed till 3:30 again (so much for a weekend) and had to get up at 7:30 in the morning because there was a basketball tournament in davis and g was playing. i didn't know it was double elimination and had my doubts about how well g's team would play so i decided it would be wise to make sure i was present during his first game (at 9 am!!). div and i went and were later joined by nina and her friend preeti. it was fun watching everyone at first. g's team lost and jash's team played shally's. eventually, the games became extremely boring and we were hungry from the night before so we went to subway to have lunch. we came back to the tournament after that but this time the fun picked up again because shaun, gurveen, patrick and everyone else showed up too. as soon as g's team was eliminated, i drove him back to the apartment (he stayed with us for the weekend) and him, jeevan, and me hung out while everyone else was at arden doing some shopping. that night there was another party but i missed it cuz i fell asleep. i woke up just in time to greet nina's convict friends and they kept me up, resulting in yet another 4-something in the morning bedtime. earlier this week we hung out at sharps. i hadn't been to their apartment in a while and even though i knew i had 7:30am class the next morning, i still went. it was fun. we just sat around and watched tv and maya and rj had a shot contest. i'm gonna say maya won cuz she sure is a champ when it comes to drinking. must be the sorority in her. i didn't get home till 3 and passed out immediately. when i woke up at 6-something for class, i had 5 missed calls and realized i had accidentally locked div and kiran out of the apartment! i came home about 45 mins. before they did and i was the only one who had the keys!! they ended up sleeping over at gurveen's. i should do something nice to make it up to them. last night was super lame at first. i don't have class on fridays so i decided to stay behind and just hang out with everyone. several people called to make plans but by 11, nothing was happening. i decided to just get in bed and sleep since i was already lacking in the sleep department anyway. at 2:51am (i checked the clock), div woke me up and asked if i wanted to go to jash's to watch a movie. i had already been asleep for a good two hours or so and even had my retainer and everything in. the movie idea didn't seem like something to pass up so i got up and got ready and we went over to their apartment. we watched menace to society. it was...different. definitely not anything i've ever seen before. everyone kept telling me that that's how life in "the hood" is. whatever. i've never been to the hood and frankly, i have very little interest in it. i just felt super bad for the poor asian store owner who was killed within five minutes of the movie. that set my mood off right from the beginning. i guess it was pretty entertaining, though. it was full of symbolism and that made it worth my while. div and i slept the night over there and all four of us (jash, paul, div, and i) watched TV. actually, jash passed out pretty early. paul ditched him on his bed and came and slept with div and i on our bed and us three stayed up basically the entire night just talking and watching random shows. i had a lot of fun. i passed out at my apartment for a while in the morning before driving back to yuba. today was sagrandh so we went to the gurdwara. i had taken a nap and wasn't anticipating a lot of people being there. just my luck that the entire place was filled. ranjit chachi came over today to drop off suits. her son's birthday party is this saturday and we're having a huge family party for it. she gave out suits to all the relatives but was having a difficult time trying to find something for me. i really liked this green suit that i saw at her store over break but everyone said it was too plain. when chachi came over today, she surprised me by giving me that same plain one (totally unexpected) and another one of her choice. yay. i love getting new indian clothes :-) i think that's enough updating for now. sorry for lagging!
