Well, technically I am the first born of the family with one younger brother and our roles are text book. I am the anxious over achiever who needs my family to approve constantly whereas my brother consistently forgets birthdays, is late, rude, has sex with his girlfriend at volume and is still adored by my mother. He undermines me with a constant stream of criticism about my weight (I am either too fat or too thin), my grammar and the fact that I practically raised him. My family usually join in with this and I rarely go home these days.
Now, thanks to divorce I am the middle child of seven. Nothing has changed apart from the fact I get undermined for not being as clever as my older step siblings (one is an art therapist and the other is a dentist, I am a teacher) or as disabled as the youngest two. My parents also adopted an older boy so that they could have a first born son.
So I am nervous, self critical and attention seeking basically. Perfect combination of the mucked up eldest and middle child.
