Well, it's Nov. 1st and it is really cold and dark here in Switzerland. Only 5 p.m. and the sun is already setting...a tad depressing. It will get even worse, too, as the winter goes on.
I replaced my cell phone today. The guy at Orange (my bff Ignacio) was unnecessarily sweet to me and gave me a 100 CHF discount on a brand new Motorola Pebl phone (a little round flip phone...it's cute) since they are out of the two cheapest models that Orange offers. He also gave me a new SIM card for free and told me to bring my bill in if there are any weird charges that I don't recognize. I swear I wanted to hug him right then and there. I have no idea how he got me a discount since that is so not part of the deal. It made me very happy, nonetheless. So - if anyone wants my new number (again), let me know. It's the same number I had with Orange before, if you already have that number.
Yesterday was Halloween but it came and went just like any other day...no costumes, no candy, nothing. It isn't a big deal here at all. Carnivale is more there equivalent, and that's in the late winter/early spring.
Class today was great. In the morning I had my Francais en chansons class...so much new music to share with you guys at home (especially you Jamie!!). Then after lunch I had The Poet and the Canon. I love my teacher in there...she is from Boston and super cool. She's also the one who received her degrees at Harvard, Yale, and Cambridge. We were totally reminiscing about American stuff today in class, it was so funny. She said she likes my taste in books, and that made me happy.
Well, I think I'm going to go do my reading for my class tomorrow since we are going to the movies tonight. I think we're seeing Parfum, which is a German film based on the best selling German novel of all time. It's about a murderer, I think. Very cheerful! They have Christmas stuff in the stores now and are hanging Christmas decorations around at St. Francois. It feels so strange that the holidays are coming and I won't be doing any of the traditional things at home. I'm only slightly nostalgic...mostly excited about trying some of the customs here!
I hope everyone at home is staying warm and enjoying the first day of the new month. I always love the firsts...great opportunities to make fresh starts.
Gros bisous!!!
