Sorry I didn't get a chance to post over the weekend I was on holiday... wish I had stayed at home with my lap top and a cup of tea, the weather was that bad!!

part five is here, if you missed it - http://miss-shine.livejournal.com/7392.html

Without further delay here it is part six

Ianto sat in the waiting room of the royal hope hospital. Any minute now Doctor Harper would appear and they would set of on their mission to free Toshiko Sato. Harper was late, and it surprised Ianto that he wasn’t more annoyed by it, almost like he expected him to be late. It was only when Ianto got home that questions about the young Doctor’s motives and ideas started to form in Ianto’s mind.

Why was Owen so sure that they were meant to apart of Torchwood three? Ianto who worked at Torchwood had only ever heard that they lost communication with Torchwood three on New Year’s eves 1999. As ever as Torchwood one was concerned it had disappeared along with Torchwood four. As far as Ianto knew now that Torchwood one had fallen, Torchwood’s staff now consisted of a crazy man living in Glasgow.

Where were these dreams of his coming from? Ianto had a few dreams himself mostly about having sex with a tall, dark and handsome stranger, but he wasn’t one hundred percent convinced that these dreams were memories from another timeline. For a start the science of it didn’t make the least bit of sense. If the timelines had indeed been altered as dramatically as Owen was suggesting then there would be no trace of the change. They wouldn’t have a single memory of it; they would simply continue to live their life in the alternate timeline. At least that was what everything he leant at Torchwood lead him to believe. They certainly wouldn’t be dreaming of it, when Ianto really sat down and thought about it Harper’s actions lead him to only two conclusions.

Firstly that the Doctor had gone mad. Ianto had watched all of the news reports about he hospital disappearing and than being put back. He had watched the news reporters conclude that the entire hospital had been drugged and that its removal was part of some kind of terrorist plot. He had laughed at it…but now that this Doctor had come to him with talk on alternative worlds and timelines… it did make him wonder if they had indeed been drugged or weather the thin air had affected Harper’s brain.

Secondly that Doctor Harper was simply trying to manoeuvre or trick Ianto into doing his dirty work. Maybe he knew this Sato and perhaps he and she were indeed part of some terrorist group. Ianto did wonder why they chose him…but Owen knew of Torchwood perhaps they planned to use his knowledge of it in some kind of terrorism. Perhaps Harper was simply in love with Sato and needed someone else’s help to free her…but why he would pick Ianto somebody that he had never meet before to help him, did not make sense at all.

The more Ianto thought about it the crazier Harper seemed…but there was something about the way he spoke that showed how intelligent he was. There was something about the way he acted with every idea or possibility though out completely and logically before acted on, these things about his personality made Owen seem normal and less crazy. Ianto had almost turned around and gone home on his way to the hospital…but there Ianto’s own gut feeling that stopped him. A horrible twist in his stomach that told him had to go through with it.

Owen appeared with blood on his white coat and sweat running down his face. “Sorry, I had to cover in accident and emergency… and well there was an emergency” He pulled off his coat and used its sleeve to wipe his forehead. “Follow Me,” he said looking over his shoulder as he did so. Ianto stood up and obeyed Owen lead him to the changing room. Ianto waited near the door while Owen opened his locked and pulled out a new white Doctor’s coat and a paramedic’s uniform, “here put this on” he handed him the paramedic’s uniform.

“Thank you” Ianto said politely Owen had clearly thought about every detail of his plan. “So” said Ianto as he removed his shoes, “What do I do once we are inside UNIT?”

“As little talking as possible, Martha is going to do most of our talking until we’re inside Toshiko’s cell. Once we’re in there you need to stand two feet in front of the door. That’s important because there’s camera above the door of the cell, but if you stand two feet in front of it and don’t move until I say you should able to block they’re view.”

“Then what?”

“We pretend to be trying to save her life, you know couple of minutes of fake mouth to mouth then when we are unable to do so. We stick her in the body bag and wheel her out.” Owen pulled a medic’s bag out of his locked and replaced it with Ianto’s clothes. Ianto looked at himself in the thin mirror of the changing room. He looked strange in a paramedic’s uniform, strange but good. “Getting out might be harder, Martha says that they usually do the autopsies there and then have the family come and claim the body.”

“You think they won’t let us take her?”

“I don’t know…I’ll think of something through” Owen frowned. “Maybe say the body might infect people…and that it should be burned…does that sound convincing to you?”

Ianto nodded in spite of himself as Owen pasted him the keys to the ambulance they where borrowing.

Ianto was surprised how easy it was to get into UNIT undetected. As Owen had said Martha did all of their talking for them. Explaining that Miss Sato hadn’t eaten any of her food recently and that all the tests that Martha had done on her came back negative. ‘Of course they did’ thought Ianto ‘she’s not sick’. Martha said that Owen was a specialist in the area of foreign and inter - galactic diseases and that he might be able to help her. They allowed Ianto and Owen to enter the cell and shut the door behind them. A recorded message told them that they had five minutes. Ianto stood where he was meant to stand between Owen and the door.

Owen spoke to Toshiko in very fast Japanese Ianto’s Japanese was rusty at best by understood the gist of what was going on. Owen was explaining to Toshiko about his dreams, and that they were where to rescue her. Owen held up the needle containing the drug that would slow her heart rate giving her the appearance of having just died. “You’ve had the dreams too?” Ianto asked thinking that he already knew the answer.

“Yes I have” she said quite clearly, “I’ve been waiting for someone to come for me, in my dreams it was the Captain… but something changed in the timelines” Owen removed the needle and Toshiko rubbed her arm. “I guess something happened to him…” she went quite as the drugs started to take their slow effect on her.

“There’s something I don’t understand, why is it that you and Owen can remember everything about these changed timelines and I only remember little bits.”

“Ianto, I have had a long time to think about this and I have come to one very simple conclusion. Owen and I both process the two things you need to see absolute truth, we are brilliant and unloved. You, Ianto Jones are just brilliant so you only see parts of the truth.” Ianto looked at Doctor Harper the single tear that run down his face told him that Toshiko spoke the truth.

Her eyes started to close as her slipped into a deep sleep; Owen picked up her legs and pulled her out of the corner where she had been sitting. Owen pretended to do mouth to mouth and Ianto pretended to be trying to get her heart started. Two UNIT footmen burst threw the door, he and Owen continued with their facade. Ianto pushed up and down on her chest while counting to fifteen loudly as Owen breathed fake breath into her month. The two UNIT men watched with wide eyes and gaping mouths as they finally declared her dead.

“Dam it,” screamed Owen in mock rage to losing his patient.

“Doctor, you did everything you could” Ianto offered his false words of comfort while trying to suppress a grin. They were almost home free.

“We got here to late, we were too fucking late! Again” Ianto thought that Owen’s performance was near Oscar winning. “Look” Owen turned to the guards. “This disease the same one that she had came into this world through the void. Its incurable, but if I had been able to keep her alive we might have been able to get a better understanding of what causes it. We might have been able to cure it”

“But she’s dead” said one of the guards dimly as the other bent down to check her pulse.

“I know, which is why we’re taking the body to do further tests.”

“You can’t” said the guard who had check Tosh’s pulse. “UNIT takes care of all decreased prisoners”

“What’s your name?” Owen asked, Ianto kept his mouth shut and watched the Doctor work.

“Charles Johnson”

“Charles, if we are able to take her body we might be able to cure this god awful disease before it wipes out half the population of plant earth. You have friends? Family? A girlfriend?” Owen glanced at the other guard. “Boyfriend? Don’t you?” The guard blushed and nodded. “You wouldn’t want everything to happen to them would you? Perhaps in death,” he turned and looked sombrely into Tosh’s face “she can help save the world” a tear actually ran down the guards face as he nodded his permission. Owen turned to Ianto a stony expression on his face, “Get the trolley.”

As Ianto walked passed the guards into the hall to where they had left the trolley he thought ‘this is it, we’re home free.’ He wheeled it back in, the guards moved out of his way. Owen stood by Tosh’s feet and Ianto by her head. “One, two, three” he counted as they lifted her on to the trolley and into the body bag. Ianto zipped it up and as they wheeled Tosh out of her cell he thanked the guards. Who were both in floods of silence tears. ‘Oscar winning’ thought Ianto.
