So, my mom had her mastectomy today. Dr. Forte cut off her left boob and Dr. Green put in an enlarger to stretch the skin slowly so they can fit an implant in there. He also fixed her right boob so it's not all saggy and in a few months he's going back in to swap the enlarger for an implant. She'll also be starting hormone treatment in about a month. Umm...What else? Oh! So, surgery was about 7:45 when we left pre-op and they took her in. Everything went great until they took her out to recovery, where they had a lot of trouble (2 extra hours of trouble) getting her pain managed. Then, when we could see her, they couldn't get her oxygen level stabilized, so after a few hours in there, they decided to admit her. So basically she's in the hospital right now for at least tonight, and we'll find out more tomorrow. She also has 2 drain tubes in either side of her to keep fluids from collecting in the hole where her boob was and in the area around the reconstruction. She also has a pain pump that just continually pumps a certain amount of CCs into the extraction site for like 2 or 3 days. Also, after she was admitted, they let her eat some chicken broth and jello, just to see it she could stomach food, which she could, so they're allowing her to eat real food now. So...That's my update! If anyone wants to call or visit her, she's in room 641 at St. John's.
