* Today is Veteran's Day, so a hearty thank you to everyone who has served or is currently serving. If you'd like to say thanks with your wallet, I recommend
the USO, which does a lot more than just entertain the troops. (US forces and their allies.) They provide support for military personnel and their families at home and abroad, a safe place in a new city or a foreign port, and other services.
And for all you vets, make sure you take advantage of the freebies offered today: many chain restaurants (Applebees, Dennys, California Pizza Kitchen, Olive Garden, etc.) offer free food to vets, plus museums, national parks, and other special deals.
* Typhoon Haiyan has devastated the Phillipines, with thousands dead and millions affected. Please consider donating to
the American Red Cross's typhoon relief fund or directly to
the Philippine Red Cross, which will be handling the initial on-the-ground work. The American Red Cross is also providing family tracing services, so if you or someone you know can't reach a loved one in the Philippines, you can can contact them for assistance.
