Zen, we-love-men-in-uniform edition.

Fleet Week
It's that time of year in NYC, when the sailors and marines wander around Times Square and wonder where the porn palaces and hookers went. We welcomed in the fleet, headlined by the USS Iwo Jima, to the center of the universe on Wednesday. They showed up looking spiffy, but immediately got down to work, invading Coney Island and Brighton Beach (and encouraging the young locals to consider a lifetime of adventure and heavy weaponry). The Iwo Jima is parked on the West Side, near the Intrepid, of whom they get a lovely view at night.

Hanging with the Undertall
* Iraq: fistbump.
* Morocco: eye check | sunglasses | balloons | chillin'
* Afghanistan: for the birds
* USA: before the happy returns come the tearful goodbyes.

Vehicle Pr0n
* The future USS Jason Dunham takes a test drive.
* A couple of F-15s get the best seats in the house for the shuttle Atlantis's launch.
* About the only time a Globemaster will look any kind of graceful is on approach.
* A flock of Hercules.
* The Blue Angels can look spiffy even when parked, but the civilian demonstration teams can hold their own.
* The Japanese mooching fuel.
* Kiowa in the sun.
* Mood indigo.

Shooting Things
* Tracers at night.
* The USS McCampbell letting one fly.

Miscellany
* Dogs, devil and traditional (junior) models.
* David Beckham finds a social grouping even more heavily inked than he is.
* Not exactly a Field of Dreams, but marines make do.
* The other golden arches.
* It's graduation week at the service academies, so the Long Gray Line got a little longer and the USAFA punted their Firsties out as well. (We'll get to Annapolis next week.) Needless to say, nobody minded.
