SG-1 doesn't need a cut for spoilers because all I have to say was that I didn't like it. At all. Last week's was much more fun and the team displayed plenty of chemistry and entertainment, which made the premise of this week somewhat ironic. Notable moments from this week: (1) SGA apparently has swiped the entire CGI budget. (2) Fanon will probably choose to ignore the news that Mitchell apparently snores. They'll love his car, though.

SGA can get a cut
:
* My appreciation of this episode was totally unaffected by just having mainlined all of Season Six and thus
Unnatural Selection, which is basically this episode plus Asgard and Jack being John and Sam being Rodney.
* Actually, I said "Replicators!" the same moment Rodney did. I was so proud. I twigged to something the minute none of the 'Ancients' cared that John had the gene, but I understood the minute we saw the hand in John's head. [Actually, now there's a place for darkfic... John as stand-in for the Ancients they can't seek revenge upon.]
* Speaking of ATA gene envy, this episode is pretty much what The Tower could have been and wasn't. I wonder if the idea for it didn't come from the same planning session as that one.
* Rodney and John are kind of adorable because they bring out the other's inner seven-year-old. (All you folks estimating twelve are giving them maturity they do not possess.)
* Ronon, however, brings out his own inner seven-year-old. Good to see no lasting trauma from last week. (Or not, you know, depending on how you feel about consequences.)
* I was a big M*A*S*H fan growing up -- yes, I'm old enough to have watched it when it was on -- and so I will always have a soft spot for David Ogden Stiers. That said, Oberoth was kind of a cross between Major Winchester and J'onn (oh, the scarring of
that). I had completely forgotten that I'd seen stills for him and this way back when.
* The replicators as a creation of the Ancients has logic (at least since I haven't seen most of the rest of SG-1). That they might prove a recurring threat not like the Wraith has potential. Sadly, we've seen the writers squander both of these elements before.
* I kind of want to know what Teyla and Elizabeth saw when they were being interrogated. The boys essentially got their worst fears realized: Rodney (unescapable physical pain), John (dying to save the people in his charge), and Ronon (a runner again, reduced to fighting endlessly for his life).

... in other news, I think I'm supposed to point out that voting for the
Stargate Fan Awards is open. Considering that most of my stories are up against Really Big Stories (including The Story That Ate Fandom -- Best Gen Drama is loaded), I'm not predicting any wins. Which is okay with me -- I'm happy to get the stories noticed through the nomination process.
... I think I have the in for this week's SGA episode drabble. I'm embarrassingly behind on my
artword story, but I'll probably get it done (the drabble; the challenge fic will be a tighter squeeze, despite my desire to not let down the lovely and talented
anna_luna).
