SGA drabble request: Urchatz

shemchadash: Atlantis Seder

I knew I was going to cheat on this one -- it was hard enough to remember not to use Ashkenazi pronunciation and I know naught of Sephardic traditions. It also ended a bit more... unwacky than I intended.

in short... no )

Squee! Go, Yoni, go! I love the difference between how he sees the holiday and she does, and how he points out that there will be enough disagreement as it *is*. 'Cause...yeah.

I figured it would be a lead balloon.

... now that is *exactly* what I wanted to see after completing the request. ;)

Glad you liked.

Pesach, at least for me, is one of the biggest cognitive dissonance holidays -- the one where I go "oy!" and gentiles of my acquaintance go "oh isn't it *fun*?" and it seemed an obvious extension because.. yeah. :)

Thanks.

He didn't let the diplomat get a word in edgewise. :)

Yoni's got a fair point, though. To choose Passover, of all possible holidays would be a tad counterproductive. Whereas everybody can get behind the spirit of, say, Purim. :)

Excellent vignette! As a non-observant Jew I tend to be incredibly wary of seeing Judaism discussed in (fan)fiction, but this felt not only semi-meta to me, but also rang very true.

As a moderately observant Jew, I share your wariness. It wasn't meta per se -- characters griping on my behalf that Chanukah isn't a major holiday would be meta -- but it was certainly drawn from real life.

Thanks for the comment.

Speaking as a lapsed Catholic, I'm sure I missed about 90% of what you were going for. But I very much enjoyed what I understood.

I don't think you miss much by not being Jewish (but, then again, how would I know?). It's your garden variety There's More To This Holiday Than You'd Like There To Be wackiness. And Jews bicker among themselves over doctrine and dogma, too. But, yeah. Safir 1, Weir 0. :)

I like a *lot*. I can totally see Weir (and by extension, those of us well-meaning gentiles) really *trying* to do what she sees as the right thing and totally screwing things up. As always, nicely done.

Elizabeth's not the victim of the clueless sort of ignorance -- well, not entirely -- but she's ignorant of how *complicated* a simple-looking observance can be. Good intentions as pavestones and all that.

Thank you. :)
