I'm really bad with choosing books. I know what I like and yet, I get really frustrated because I usually can't find something just right. I judge books by their covers because usually I'm right, I also avoid the majority of books by men because I haven't been able to read 90% of books by men that I've tried. It's odd I know. I like to look at what my favourites authors have available (i.e. still got a few Jodi Picoult books left to read) and I also like to just browse a book shop, looking at books for hours until I've found one or not found one. I'm trying to be better and have a go, but I've bought so many books I've never read that I worry it'll be the same. But this year I've forced myself to read two books I didn't enjoy as much as others, simply because I bought them. Instead of leaving them to the dust bunnies which I usually do.

I noticed you're probably looking to do a Masters degree next year, I'm curious what you want to do in the long term, career wise. Obviously the whole media side of the world is quite specialised but at the same time there's also so much out there. Do you have any big plans/hopes/ideas?

I definitely need to start reading through the backlog of books I have on my bookshelves. I'm really bad at buying books because they catch my eye and then never read then, so good on you for making your way through a few you weren't a fan of.

Ohh interesting but scary question! My big dream/aim is to be eventually living and working in America, hopefully in Hollywood. But in the shorter term working in London would be a start. I want to work in the film industry as a Unit Publicist. A Unit Publicist is basically someone who publicise a film. They work on a film from it's conception so they write the press release saying that "The film called X, Directed by Y and starring Z is about to go into production" and have a small synopsis of the film as well. They then work on the film set and organise when film journalists visit and make sure it's when something interesting is happening and the director/stars are free to have a chat. They also sometimes work on organising the press junkets if it is a huge film too.

So really I want to be a part of the film world and be one of the people that makes the general public want to see the film. I'd love to end up working for Marvel - that would be an extra bonus - I have the side plan that if I do more research stemming from my dissertation and manage to write and publish a book on Marvel, that might get their attention.

I think it's very easy to end up with a bookshelf of stories you don't read! I must admit, one of the two stories I did enjoy, it was just a bit scarier than I would have liked. The other one, well, I thought it was terribly written!

That sounds like you have some big plans there! I think I understand what the job entails, I feel like I've met someone who does that/follow him on Twitter. He's never specifically said that's his job title but he always seems to be the one who sorts out interviews, etc. It sounds like quite an exciting role to have, like you're kind of part of the film but you're also kind of part of the audience in a sense.

So does that mean you did your dissertation on Marvel? That's awesome!

Oohh! Introduce me lol Twitter's a good way of meeting random people like that. I've only recently got into Twitter (I'm @ElenaM52) but it's great making connections with people.
Yeah that's my thinking, I've never wanted to be in front of the camera but working behind the scenes means that you should still get some enjoyment out of the final product.

Yeah my dissertation title was "An Analysis of Marvel Studios as an example of how Hollywood works" so it wasn't really about the content of the films, more about the funding, publicity techniques, and how it was bought by Disney. I really enjoyed it and there's more I wanted to say so definitely more available to work with than just the 10,000 word dissertation.

LOL! I don't really know him that much, pretty sure he does publicity for Skins and other shows like that.

Twitter really is a great place to make connections, I've talked to so many random people on there - and made some great friends. It's weird that something like that didn't exist in our lives ten years ago.

That's such a great concept for a dissertation though, definitely sounds very much like your side of the industry too. Whilst the films themselves are important in some respect, everything else is equally important too! I can imagine that there would be more...it sounds very exciting, the idea of being able to expand on that if you wanted to!
