When I say you, I mean me. When I say away, I mean working at a summer camp in the Yorkshire Dales. What fun! Actually it was, rather much so in fact.
I spent 3 weeks doing various activities such as; raft building, survival skills, climbing, paintballing, archery, team building challenges and a lovely long walk. And that's just the organised things. I also beat up a lot of bracken (it's an invasive species I'll have you know!), played dodge ball (for one game, then I just never found the time to play again), got dressed up as a mummy (three times!) and also pimped out as a rather uber cool chav (someone has photographs that I need to steal of that moment).
I've dealt with idiots, lovely people, crying, fainting, anger and various other emotions...all from a bunch of 17-19 year olds.
I've worked from 7.30 until 11pm most days, (aside from Saturdays and a couple of Fridays/Sundays and on the days I had to sit in the corridor until the rooms were silent until about 1.30am), I've had little sleep, I've been ill and I've been ready to collapse from tiredness on many occasions.
And guess how much I got paid to do all of this? Nothing. That's right, nada. I did it for free, the act of volunteering.
Was it worth it? Ha. I wish I could say 100% that it was...then again I can't say it was 100% not either.
Along the way I've met many great individuals, some fantastic young people who will make brilliant future leaders. I've also been able to shoot some arrows in archery (which I love dearly and very rarely actually get to do), climb a wall, sit on a raft (that, by the way, was very successfully built!) and paddle my way out into the water. I've gained confidence, challenged my abilities...and met some amazing friends along the way!
Now...I'm home...I have a job that I got offered whilst away...AND I'm back into the world of writing Fanfiction.
Is life good? HELL YES!
That is all... :-D
Actually it's not...I also had a bucket of beans thrown over my head, followed by a bucket of freezing cold water...topped off with flour. And that was my last day...
