I went on a blind date last night with a guy one of my friends set me up with. She told me he doesn't have career and he smokes pot but he's a good guy (and comes from a rich family). I agreed to going out with him and she gave him my number. The first clue things weren't gonna work is it took him almost a week to set up the date with me. I had told him Thursday night is good for me to go out...and it took him forever to pick a time and place to go. In the end, he asked me to pick a place. WTF. Not to take 5 steps back from feminism but I'm the girl. He's suppose to pick. Alright I let it slide and I told him where to go. Strike one for the date: He was late. I don't do late, especially for the first date. He let me know he was on his way so I waited. When he shows up, he's wearing khakis and a white polo. He told me he just got off work...from his job as a valet. I tried to keep my face neutral as my insides screamed, WTF? Strike two for the date: He pulled out his fone during the date. I. Fucking. Hate. That. I always put my fone away and give whomever I'm with my fullest attention. I just looked at him and he said sorry. Dinner was fine, or the food was good at least. Conversation was lacking. He asked me questions and stuff but we didn't talk too much about anything. He says he has hobbies but he hasn't done any of those things in a long time. We talked the entire time but I wasn't blown away by him. Then the bill comes out. Strike three for the date: He asks if I want to split the bill. Um, what the actual fuck? I thought this a was a date? Again, I'm probably setting females back three decades by thinking this but the guy is suppose to pay on the first date. I'm a girl that can pay for my own shit and I don't mind paying. I paid for Green Eyes after a while, but he paid for everything the first night. Same thing with Girly Boy the first time we went out too. This is the first date. If he was "kinda broke" why didn't he choose, say, a cheaper place for us to go? Wtf? I told him I would give him money next time I see him. "Next time?" he asks. I told him, Yeah, sure. Whatever. Lamest date ever.
When I got home, I told Christine I wasn't interested. She asked me why and I only told her the first two things that I really didn't like. She told me I was being to picky and if I kept it up I wouldn't be able to find anyone. The fuck? I don't think I'm being too picky. Being too picky would be me saying he was short (which he wasn't) or I didn't like the way he chewed his food. I think those are legitamate reasons for not likine someone. She told me I don't know his situation, that his mom is sick and maybe he was checking in. If that were the case, then he should have said something. He wouldn't have to tell him the details but just a "Hey I need to check in with my mom" or something would have made me less pissed off. And she told me he's usually a punctual person. Then I told her I wasn't blown away with conversation and she told me cuz this was basically a blind date and we were just talking bout techinical stuff. We didn't have a chance to get to really know each other. She just told me he and I both are rusty at the dating deal. She told me he had a good time and he wants to see me again. I told her maybe I got him on a bad night. He didn't seem to enthusiastic after having just gotten off from work. But at the same time, if he knew he had to work, why didn't he make the date on a night he was more free? Or at least bring a change of clothes. Sheesh. She told me I just need to stop being so picky and practice the dating stuff a little more.
But this is what I learned: I have standards. Cuz this guy was really tall ( I wore my highest high heels and he was still taller than me) and he was a white boy but damn there was no chemistry with him at all. See, Green Eyes? Oh my fucking god I was so attracted to him on that night. Everything about him, his voice, his looks, the way he held me and kissed me, everything was so fucking good. He wasn't late for our date and he never pulled out his fone. Green Eyes was short but I liked him nonetheless. I don't go for all looks. I acutally have expectations and I don't yield just cuz a guy is tall and white. I need good conversation and attraction.
Good job, Green Eyes. You have set the bar very high and none have surpassed you on that.
