Dear Yuletide Writer,
first of all, thanks so much for signing up to write in my fandom! I'm looking forward to your story already. I have fairly eclectic tastes, and am fond of most genres. Quite a few of the fanfics I've read and enjoyed can be found in my memories.
Some general likes and dislikes --
Yes, please: Canon-compliance, humour, understated romance, smut (if it fits the story), friendship, affectionate banter, missing scenes, pairing stories told from the perspective of an outsider. Plotty adventures and quiet character studies are both great.
No, thanks: Abusive relationships, casual drug use (alcohol is fine), non-con, incest, mpreg, songfic, descriptors (i.e., 'the blond man', 'the brown-eyed woman'), prettified characters, kidfic, character bashing, animal abuse.
Tintin (Tintin, Captain Haddock)
I'm one of the people who think the world needs more Tintin/Haddock slash, so I'd be very happy if you wanted to go with that. A friendship and/or adventure story would be great, too, especially if it's set during or after one of the later stories, as I tend to prefer those. A couple of story ideas (feel free to ignore, or to mix and match at will):
- If you want to write something humorous, a cameo by Séraphin Lampion (aka Jolyon Wagg) would be brilliant, especially if it's followed by a sample of Haddockian oaths. *g*
- For something a bit more serious, I'd like to see something that expands upon the idea at the end of 'Tintin and the Picaros', that Alcazar is probably just as much of a dictator as his rival Tapioca. What does his regime entail for the people of San Theodoros, and how do Tintin and his friends deal with having contributed to its rise?
(By the way, I can read French, so feel free to write your story in that language if you want.)
Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea (Ged, Jasper, Vetch)
I'd love a story about Jasper or Vetch in particular, since I think these are underused characters. Ged/Vetch or Jasper/Vetch or Ged/Jasper slash would all be wonderful, but a gen story about one or more of these relationships would be great, too. In particular, I love stories that deal with Ged's impact on Vetch's and Jasper's friendship. Also, I'm a fan of 'filling in gaps in canon', so any story that deals with Jasper's life post-Roke or Vetch and/or Ged's adventures after A Wizard of Earthsea would be great. (And don't worry if you can't fit all three characters into the fic; as long as the story isn't only about Ged, I'll be content. *g*)
Keeping Up Appearances (any)
Any story in this fandom would be great; however, I have some ideas in case you're looking for prompts:
- A story about one of Hyacinth's famous candlelight suppers
- Hyacinth takes up some popular new activity (for instance, yoga/Nordic Walking/salsa/pilates) and forces Richard to come along (bonus points if Richard ends up liking it and/or being much better at it than Hyacinth)
- Daisy wins the lottery and gets rich enough to buy a house for her family in a posh neighbourhood -- what is Hyacinth's reaction?
- There's a rumour going around that one or both of the Buckets have a secret liaison -- but with whom?
Feel free to use or disregard at will; I love this fandom, so it's very hard to go wrong. Gen, het, slash or femmeslash are all fine (just no incest, please). If you want to go the slashy route, I've read great Richard/Emmet and Hyacinth/Elizabeth fics, and so I'm somewhat partial to those pairings, but I'm sure I'd enjoy other 'ships, as well. I'm basically interested in a feel-good story in this fandom, and I'd love it if you included some of the running gags -- the more, the better.

Jules Verne's Le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours/Around the World in Eighty Days (Jean Passepartout, Inspecteur Fix)
Any story about these two would make me squee! Slash would be wonderful, but gen is great, too. If the two of them are in a relationship, I'd prefer it to be a) post-novel and b) happy without being totally unrealistic/anachronistic (i.e., no gay marriage scenario, please). Some Phileas Fogg/Princess Aouda on the side wouldn't be unwelcome, if you can fit it in. *g*
(By the way, I can read French, so feel free to write your story in that language if you want.)
