First of all, Merry (belated) Christmas to all who celebrate(d)! I meant to update earlier, but somehow never got around to it... I also wanted to post some fic, but my creativity has been rather absent lately, so I haven't been able to finish anything. :-/ But at least I got my exchange fics in on time, which is something.
However, this Christmas has been a good one (yay for nice presents, skiing and yummy food), and I got TWO Yuletide gifts! They're both wonderful:
The Home Front (E.M. Forster's Maurice) is a lovely piece from Alec's POV, wherein he runs into Clive Durham by chance during WWI. The story makes use of themes and questions which are relatively rare in Maurice fanfic but nevertheless fit beautifully with canon, such as Alec's reflections on his outlaw status and his obligations (or lack thereof) to a society which condemns him. I was also touched by the glimpse of Clive as a thoroughly broken man.
Hyacinth Bucket versus Technology (Keeping Up Appearances) is a laugh-out-loud funny series of vignettes dealing with Hyacinth's efforts to enter the internet age. Hilarity ensues as she has to face everything from the millennium bug to spam email -- not to mention certain scandalous materials... Spot-on voices and characterisations, and even some Richard/Emmet overtones: what more could I ask for in a KUA fic? *g*
There are other stories waiting to be read, of course, and I very much look forward to catching up (this goes for every exchange I'm involved in, not just Yuletide).
Much love to everyone! I hope you're all having a lovely Sunday. <3
