Yuletide letter
Dear Yuletide Writer,
first of all, thank you for writing for me! I love all of these fandoms so much, and just the thought of receiving fic for any of them makes me happy -- I'm sure I'll love whatever you decide to write. :-)
I'm both easy and difficult in that I can enjoy all sorts of stories, as long as the writing is good. (Not much of a help, I know. *g*) In general, I tend to prefer canon-compliant stories, at least in small fandoms such as these, where I love the source material so much that I want 'more' of it, so to speak. That said, I also like stories that subvert/challenge canon somehow, for instance by showing us the events from the antagonist's perspective, and I wouldn't mind an interesting AU... I'll read any rating, but tend to prefer sex scenes that are relevant to the story somehow.
General squicks: use of descriptors instead of names/pronouns ("the brown-eyed woman", "the blond man", etc.), animal torture, male pregnancy, brainwashing, maiming, incest, humiliation, gay stereotypes... Other than that, I'm not easily squicked, and I enjoy short character studies as much as longer, plot-heavy stories.
E.M. Forster's Maurice (Alec, Clive)
I love this novel and the idea behind this novel (that there can be a happily-ever-after ending for two men), so I'd rather not read a story in which Alec/Maurice don't stay together... What I would adore, is something from Alec's POV, something that explores both his feelings for Maurice and his thoughts on the Maurice/Clive relationship -- anything that compares/contrasts those relationships, really. It could be set during the novel or after, whatever you feel comfortable with. Or if you'd rather not write from Alec's perspective, I'd adore a story about Clive as an old man, thinking back on his life, reflecting on his choices, remembering Cambridge. (And please don't take the characters rule too seriously; I'd love a story about any of them, they don't have to both be in it.)
Keeping Up Appearances (any)
This is one of my favourite comedy shows, and I love all the running gags in it, so any fic which includes those would be most welcome. :-D I'm basically interested in a feel-good story in this fandom, although I wouldn't mind a somewhat-angsty fic as long as there are touches of humour, and as long as there is a happy ending. Gen, het and slash are all great -- as for pairings, I've read excellent stories featuring Hyacinth/Elizabeth and Richard/Emmet, so either of those pairings would be great, although I like the canon 'ships as well... Perhaps a glimpse of Onslow and Daisy in their youth? (We know they have at least one child, so Onslow can't always have been such an apathetic slob. *g*) Or perhaps you could show us one of Hyacinth's famous candlelight suppers? You decide!
Sarah Waters' Affinity (any)
There are so many interesting possibilities here -- for instance, I'd adore a story about Ruth/Selina, post-novel. Does Selina ever regret her actions? Did she ever have any feelings for Margaret at all? How does Ruth treat her? Or... something from Ruth's perspective, at any time during the novel, or before, or after -- she's such an interesting character! If you're not interested in writing these characters, I'd also love a story about Helen and/or Margaret, perhaps set during the latter's breakdown... Anything would be great, really, especially if it's dark and twisted like the novel. ;-)
Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea (Ged, Jasper, Vetch)
I should say straight away that I'm of the opinion that there isn't nearly enough slash fanfiction about these characters, so -- Ged/Jasper, Ged/Vetch or Jasper/Vetch would all be equally welcome. (However, if you want to write a threesome and you think you can pull that off, then by all means go for it...) That said, I love genfic about these characters, too, especially when it's from either Jasper's or Vetch's perspective, since I think they're highly underused in fanfic -- in particular, I love stories that deal with Ged's impact on Vetch's and Jasper's friendship. Also, I'm a fan of 'filling in gaps in canon', so any story that deals with Jasper's life post-Roke or Vetch and/or Ged's adventures after A Wizard of Earthsea would be great. (And don't worry if you can't fit all three characters into the fic; as long as the story isn't only about Ged, I'll be content. *g*)
