Fest etiquette

You know what annoys me every time I see it? When people participate in fic exchanges and fail to comment on the story they received. It's just so... rude. It's rude even if the 'gift' isn't all that great, but somehow it gets worse if the story is jaw-droppingly good. I can squee and flail and tell the author how wonderful I think the fic in question is, but that's not the same thing as hearing it from the recipient's own mouth (well, keyboard) -- the fic is specifically tailored to their wishes, after all.

This hasn't happened to me -- yet*. It probably will, sooner or later. I wonder, is it rude to give the recipient a poke if they fail to comment? Only after some time, of course (a week, or something). I mean, if  I'd somehow failed to notice there was a gift posted for me, I'd be glad to have a reminder, instead of risking coming across as an arrogant bint; so if the author had left an anonymous comment, saying, 'I think you may have missed the fic I wrote for you', I wouldn't be offended at all. But perhaps other people might be?

What do you think?

* ETA: It sort of did once, in that I wrote for a person who dropped out. I'm not sure if that counts, though.
