I went to see the film Australia last night. It was bloody gorgeous - I found myself tearing up several times, in a (mostly) good way. (Spoilers under cut.)
- About the acting: Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman were both magnificent in their roles, and they had a great chemistry, I thought. Also, the kid playing Nullah was both charming and talented, thankfully (it's so annoying when child actors surf on their 'cuteness' only).
- King George was awesome. I love the fact that he was the one to give the bad guy what he deserved. Speaking of which, David Wenham's performance reminded me of why I found his Faramir a bit... sleazy.
- It's clear, not only from the title, that Australia itself is playing quite an important part in the film. The scenery was breath-taking, of course, but I also think it was clear that Baz Luhrman wanted to make a homage to his country without glossing over the dark parts of its history. I think he succeeded.
- On a more superficial note, for some reason the ending made me want to slash Emmett the army officer and Brother Frank the young priest. Heh. Also, Hugh Jackman as The Drover is OMFG HOT. *drools*
In other news, I woke up this morning with a pain in my back, and I have no idea why. :-(
