An explanation, finally...

(Warning: nerdy HP-related rambling ahead!)

Something that's been bothering me ever since I started writing fanfic, is the fact that the Dumbledore/Grindelwald duel was what brought the latter down. I mean, we are told that GG is at the height of his (considerable) powers when the Duel takes place, and that's indeed what I've always thought, too. And yet, after GG's defeat his supposedly large army just lay down their weapons? Doesn't make much sense to me.

But yesterday, an explanation suddenly occurred to me: what if all of GG's forces were hidden by the Fidelius Charm, and he was the only Secret Keeper? If the secrets were then forced out of him by means of Veritaserum or something after his capture, that would mean that all of his forces were exposed, and could be taken by surprise.

Granted, this assumes that a secret protected by the Fidelius Charm can be forced out of someone, which may be inconsistent with the information given in book 3. Then again, DH seemed to introduce several new twists to said charm... Either way, it makes sense, so I'm sticking with this idea, at least until a better explanation comes along.
