Friday the 9th routine removal of a 7mm stone in left ureter about 2 inches above bladder. Took 1 hour 15 minutes. 45 year old obese male. Woke up, urinated, went home to recover. 10 hours later unable to urinate again, severe pain. Ended up in emergency at 10 pm being catherized. Wore catheter till tuesday morning. Removed and now urin flows normally.
Stent is very uncomfortable, cant sleep at night for frequent urination every 90 minutes. Stent Removal friday the 23rd. If I don’t die from lack of sleep by then.
____
Questions:
1) Why was this inability to urinate after surgery never discussed as a possible side effect? Is the doctor negligent?
2) Doctor says general antisea caused it? Is this possible?
3) Why do stents cause such discomfort?
4) Is there any way to sleep at night with a stent? Or is this whole thing designed as a way to torture patients into sleep deprivation?
5) Stent Removal in the office on the 23rd. Should I expect the same torturous pain as was accompanied by the catheter insertion? Doctor prescribed valium to take 30 minutes before removal of stent. How horrible is this going to be?
6) Is medical science trying to develop a better way? Like a self dissolving stent? Or is this primitive torture the only method available in the near future?
