Casting Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney

May 18, 2010 15:25

This weekend I was replaying some Phoenix Wright games and playing Ace Attorney Investigations and I forgot how much I love the games so I decided to do a casting picspam for them. :) Enjoy!

The Defense Attorney

Phoenix Wright: David Tennant

The reason I decided to cast phoenix wright was I was watching The Stolen Earth (an episode of Doctor Who) and I suddenly realized that David Tennant would make the perfect Phoenix Wright. The hair! The suit! The yelling! The fact that I could totally imagine him saying "I was hoping I'd come up with a question while pounding on my desk. I didn't." He just is Phoenix Wright and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise. Phoenix is even similar to the Doctor in the way the game works! He's the center, he has female companions who do all his work for him save him in crucial moments help him out, he travels from place to place trying to save people, he thinks up all of his solutions on the spot, He just wants to for once be able to go to the circus/an awards show/a relaxing spa retreat without being caught up in a mess that he has to sort out. It totally works.

The Prosecutors

Winston Payne: Wallace Shawn

Oh Winston Payne. You may think you're the Rookie Killer but the only case you've ever won was against a lawyer with a cardboard badge. Still this was one of the first castings that came to me immediately. Wallace Shawn is perfect!

Miles Edgeworth: Ed Westwick

This casting was tricky because I love Edgeworth and I incredibly vocally hate Chuck on Gossip Girl. But last week when I was avoiding studying for my finals, I decided to watch some of the recent episodes after Chuck and Blair split up (ughhhh Chair, hate so much the things you choose to be). Anyway after agonizing and debating not casting this at all, I realized that as much as I hate Chuck, Ed Westwick would make a perfect Edgeworth. He's brooding, articulate, weirdly handsome, looks awesome in an ascot, capable of being both a manipulative bastard and the woobie, and before Chuck got together with Blair I did actually like him. So. Yes. They even have that weird droopy bangs hair thing going on.

Franziska von Karma: Dichen Lachman

Franziska's my favorite character in the Phoenix Wright games (see: icon). As I've been playing Ace Attorney Investigations this weekend, every time she's the partner, I end up asking her pointless questions just to see her talk. I'm always shocked when people don't like her. She's awesome! She will whip you! Edgeworth/Franziska/Phoenix OT3 4eva~~~ Anyway she was hard to cast because no one in real life has blue hair but also I generally cast these people based on roles they've done, and it's impossible to find a girl with a take no prisoners demeanor who's not doing it because she's secretly in love with you, she's doing it because she's awesome and she wants everyone to know it. Plus whips are incredibly sexualized. Then I thought of Dichen and her work on dollhouse and it ended up being ~perfect!

Godot/Diego Armando: James Callis

Godot was hard for me to cast because even though he's in almost every case of T&T, i still feel like I'm not sure I have a grip on his character or motivations. Sure, he hates Phoenix because he feels it was Phoenix's fault (and his own fault) Mia died, but it's not as concrete as Franziska being constantly demeaned by her father for not being as good as Edgeworth, or Edgeworth being raised to be a famous prosecutor so that when the man who raised him (and killed his father) framed him for his own father's murder, it would be more, as von Karma put it in AAI, "interesting." Still, I think James Callis would do a great job with Godot. He's cool as coffee and slick in a court room and good at riling the masses :)

The Spirit Mediums

Mia Fey: Anne Hathaway

Mia, Mia, Mia. Mia's interesting because although she's in every case, she's only ALIVE in three of them, and she serves more as a mentor than as a person with a concrete personality. Still I love Anne Hathaway and she has that breezy but stern personality thing down. I feel like she's inspiring enough to be Mia! And as for the gag boobs, well that's what push up bras are for!

Maya Fey: Lea Michele

Maya was tricky for me because although she looks asian, the rest of her family totally doesn't, so it always confused me. Is she Japanese? Well I obviously decided she wasn't, and it was just the hair + costume that made her look Japanese (yeah I'm guilty of a bit of white washing in this picspam, sorry!) but I think Lea Michele has the cuteness and the energy and the shortness down to be a good side kick. Plus I'm totally a Lea Michele fangirl.

Pearl Fey: Chloe Moretz

Pearl was also difficult simply because I don't know that many child actors/actresses. The media that I watch tends to be about adults. That being said, I heard Chloe Moretz was awesome in kickass and I think she's adorable and could handle being Pearl, so there you go!

The Recurring

Dick Gumshoe: Nathan Fillion

Dick Gumshoe! So well meaning but so hapless. Also super cheesy. Nathan is perfect! He has that lantern jaw and the silly grin. I love him.

Larry Butz: Cory Monteith

When something smells, it's usually the Butz. For those of you who know me, I am not a huge fan of Finn on Glee. Consider Larry as Cory's punishment. >_> No but seriously, Cory can't really act, but his acting reminds me so much of Larry. Why do girls like him again?

The Judge: Sean Connery & Wendy Oldbag: Betty White

Sean Connery because he's awesome and bald. Betty White because she's awesome and old and has great comedic timing and I want to see her hit on Ed Westwick because I will ~die laughing.

Lotta Heart: Amy Acker & Will Powers (The Steel Samurai): Hugh Jackman

Amy Acker, well, we know she can do that awesome southern accent, rife with crazy, from Angel. And doesn't Will Powers look exactly like wolverine? I think so.

Adrian Andrews: Jayma Mays & Maggey Byrd: Allison Brie

I secretly love Adrian Andrews a lot and was considering giving her her own panel, but I opted to let her share with Maggey instead. I think Jayma is perfect, she's got that quirky false confidence masking her HUGE ISSUES thing down. Plus she looks cute in Adrian's style of clothing! Maggey was another racially ambiguous one because she looks incredibly white in the first three games, but when she briefly appears in Ace Attorney Investigations she looks kind of Asian. IDK. I went with Alison Brie because I adore her as Trudy in mad men and she's got that crazy WHY ME kind of smile.

The Villains

Manfred von Karma: Christoph Waltz

Manfred von Karma, you crazy fucker, I love you. And who better to play you than the German Ethel Merman dontcha knowwww magnificent bastard from Inglourious Basterds who's been stealing my heart since October.

Dahlia Hawthorne: Megan Prescott

Because she's Katie Fucking Fitch, who the Fuck are you?

Morgan Fey: Patti LuPone

Story time! When I played JFA at the end of the second case, when Morgan's in jail, she has these crazy eyes and an I'LL GET YOU MY PRETTY type speech. So when case 4 rolled around and Maya got captured (AGAIN, seriously she's worse than Dawn in Buffy), I told all my friends that I was convinced Morgan was behind it. They had all already finished the game so laughed at me for days. Fast forward to T&T coming out. WELL GUESS WHO'S THE MASTERMIND BEHIND KILLING MISTY FEY? THAT'S RIGHT. MORGAN. SUCK IT BITCHES MORGAN IS SUPREME EVIL. Anyway I love Morgan and I love Patti LuPwn~ and it's just sort of a perfect fit. It's kismet! They're both crazy!
