Protect the Boss ep 5

It’s time to admit: I really love Ji Heon (aka the hero) and his stupid face fills my heart with glee ♥ ♥ ♥ I know I already used the Hanadan comparison and should move on to another one, but bear with me for a bit longer! Episode 5 has only reassured me that Ji Heon basically is Doumyouji. And it’s pretty damn awesome, since Ji Heon might be childish and mean, but he lacks Doumyouji’s viciousness - which makes the character this super-adorable, slightly socially inept king of dorks. You can adore him without feeling guilty at any point!

But what makes this character really work, it the actor’s performance. I’m not familiar with Ji Sung’s other works, but according to what I read on my friend list, he apparently hasn’t done much/any comedy before? And Protect the Boss is one of those really out there, wacky comedies, with a lot of physical humour and on-purpose overacting. This always strikes me as the sort of thing that can be quite tricky to pull of - especially if you want the characters to be people, not caricatures. In PtB, even though I thought he was slightly awkward at places during the first episode, Ji Sung is rocking it by now: it’s only been a few episodes, but Ji Heon already managed to steal my heart. He’s so earnest you can’t help but root for him!

And to finish on a shallow note, it helps with my ~understanding of the character~ that he’s also REALLY hot, despite the horrific haircut and wtf-worthy fashion choices - full Doumyouji effect, I tell you!

YES. THAT’S WHAT HE WANTS TO SEDUCE THE HEROINE WITH.

MOVE OVER, CASANOVA.
