Watched about almost all of the QAF UK Series 1 and 2. I liked it a lot. I'll get the DVDs one day.
Random Thoughts/Favorites:
1. When Vince is on the phone with Stuart/Stuart's Secretary/Stuart's Sister while at dinner. I was laughing so hard.
2. The whole scene with the undertaker. He climbed out the window! That was so funny.
3. Stuart "It was good enough for me". Awwww.
4. Sex/Kissing...ewwww. Um, not pretty at all.
5. Janice and Hazel. Thumbs up.
6. Accents, I remember way back when I first heard about QAF UK some people were complaining that they had some trouble with the accents. I guess I watch too much Brit tv, I didn't have trouble. So, the accents were okay, but about 20% of the phrases/word meanings flew right over my head, mostly sex related stuff. Didn't really distract from the show though.
7. Vince and Alfred. Cutsie.
8. Stuart asking Nathan to stay. Aw, Stuart it didn't hurt so much did it?
9. Stuart and Vince are definitely the OTP. I wouldn't have minded seeing the threesome though.
10. The scene with Vince running up the hill away from Stuart. Gorgeous shot.
There's more, of course, but ten is a good number. =)
Also read an interview with Russell T. Davies on TWoP and he said something that I think completely sums up the US vs. UK thing for me...
The most important thing is to think of the U.S. version as a new show, a different show. Even before they'd written a word, a twenty-two episode series is a profoundly different thing, a different concept, to an eight-partner. The viewers who'll have the worst time are those who sit with UK tapes and U.S. tapes, comparing them line by line - "Stuart wouldn't say that!" etc. No he wouldn't, and that's why I wanted the character's names changed -- it's not Stuart, he's Brian. He's very, very similar to Stuart, but he's not the same -- and gets more different as the series goes on. For example, he's got a completely different family. And once you change the family and background, then the character really starts to change -- just as it should, if it's going to stay alive.
I didn't feel like I was watching the same people or the same show. I watched two different sets of people go through close to the same experiences. Knowing the plot line did nothing to detract from the show because I didn't know how these characters would react.
B/J: I have to say that CowLip had to know that they were going to go more B/J in the beginning. Maybe not as far as they went, but the relationship was way different than the V/N setup from the get go.
