The Daily Mail have made me angry again. The lovely
purpleheather linked to me
an article, the link text of which should give a clue as to the contents. I have not yet calmed down enough to read the whole thing. I am BURNING WITH RIGHTEOUS FURY.
There is nothing DISTURBING about girls kissing girls. At 15, not a lot of people have got everything figured out sexuality-wise. Hell, I'm 26 and I know I haven't. Who gives a damn if they want to experiment with their sexuality? Oh, right, the Daily Fucking Mail, that's who. How must it make those girls feel, to have themselves labelled as "disturbing", "lurid", "attention-seeking", "inflammatory"? Jesus christ! They are TEENAGERS for god's sake! Let them work it out for themselves! God knows, if I had I might have figured out some stuff about myself before it became a bloody mental health issue! Heaven forbid that we let young people work stuff out for themselves! How will our country survive if we let them make decisions and approach things with an open mind, instead of being moulded into the shape of person we want.
To quote from the linked article:
"For previous generations, exhibiting any type of gay behaviour was certainly considered 'harm done'. Being teased for being 'lesbian' was one of the more cruel taunts that could be hurled at a teenage girl. But today we're witnessing the emergence of a growing number of young girls who are willing to experiment"
How can we let this travesty of tolerance continue! Next thing you know people will be expecting total equality for LGBT people, and then what will happen?! The country is clearly going to Hell in a Handcart!
"Their upfront, relaxed relationship is cited as evidence of the new feeling of openness and acceptance. "
Oh NO! Openness and acceptance?! But what about the homophobes? Won't somebody think of the bigots! Going to Hell in a Handcart!
"Indeed, having spoken to many youngsters about this, I'm coming to the worrying conclusion that Katy Perry's song I Kissed A Girl And I Liked It, which was a massive global hit last year, increasingly represents the experience of a generation of girls who are happy and relaxed about public, same-sex sexual experimentation. "
SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE! Same-sex affection and experimentation in public?! There should be a LAW or something!! Hell in a Handcart!
"It's hard to imagine the issue being quite so inflammatory in Britain, but there's no doubt it is increasingly common among middle-class youngsters, many of whom now possess a remarkably audacious sense of sexual confidence."
SEXUAL CONFIDENCE?! IN OUR SOCIETY?! SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!! HELL IN A HANDCART!
Sarcastic FURY aside, I am also incensed about their decision to suggest that lesbianism is some kind of "phase" that girls go through and then regret later.
I also find their citing of women having both male and female partners as some kind of flip-flopping switcheroo of "faux" lesbianism personally insulting. I am not ashamed to say I'm bisexual, it's something that is part of me. I know not everyone I come into contact with will necessarily accept it, but the least they could do is acknowledge that people like me exist. I have loved men, I have loved women. There is nothing "faux" or "lipstick lesbian" about it. I don't care what parts you've got, if you're a person I can love, then I will love you.
So FUCK YOU Daily Fail. I hope your newspaper burns in righteous fire.
EDIT: David pointed something out to me that only increases my rage. This article is really a twofer for the DM. Not only can they tell us all how the country is going to the dogs because of all these different people out there, but they also manage to include many many pictures of nubile young women, including the famous shot of Britney and Madonna tongue fencing. SODDING HYPOCRITICAL BASTARDS.
EDIT 2: Also including one of the least flattering pictures of Beth Ditto I've seen, subtly implying that lesbians are all overweight and unattractive. I'd think it was unintentional, but then this is the Daily Mail. Fuckers.
