So, it's two days after the surgery. Mom's gone from heavily sedated on morphine in ICU to much less sedated on morphine and sitting up in a chair. The surgery was expected to be about 2 hours and it turned into 4. A reasonably sized growth last week was a larger than expected tumor when they finally got it out. It was determined to be definitely cancerous. And, because of the size, they're going to precautionarily set up for radiation when she's better because, as the doctor said, "with something that size, it's almost impossible to get every last cell". I'm glad mom pushed to have the surgery sooner than later. Who knows what could have happened if they'd waited another week? The absolute fun was the heart arrhythmia that started about 24 hours after surgery. Her heart rate went from 80 to about 180 while I was standing there just talking to her. Alarms went off, nurses ran in, doctors were called. Turns out your heart is "irritable" after open chest surgery so it just can do funky things for a day or two. Freaked me out, that's for sure.
Thanks for all your support... I've needed and I'm sure I'll need it for another few weeks. I'm exhausted from getting up early for her pets, our pets, hospital visits, work, more hospital visits, calls from mom's friends, and more pet care at night. Uggh... So, that's the update and I'm off to bed.
Next week will be better!
