Greetings from Stockholm! Jay is out on the town whilst I am hanging around the hotel limping after a run in with a cobblestone footpath in Copenhagen.
Still despite my invalid status have been having an awesome time.
Berlin was fantastic as usual. Spent the first day delving into the remarkable history of the place. Went to a great museum on the DDR which focussed on daily life in East Berlin. East German cola was gross. But I got to buy some Spreewald pickles :)
Then it was off to the German History Museum which was brilliant but totally overwhelming, particularly bits on Nazi Germany. Got to see Zwingli and Calvin books!
Then after picking many bits of ham out of my omlette, it was off to Checkpoint Charlie, which gets a bit preachy at times, but it still incredibly fascinating. The indvidual stories of how people tried to flee east germany are just incredible.
Day two I ran off on my own to the Alte Museum to see egyptian statues and antiquities that arent really jays thing, plus the national gallery to see my favourite Caspar David Friedriech painting, but unfortunately that floor was closed. In the afternoon, went to possibly the worst modern art gallery in the world, before getting pleasantly drunk at a beer garden round the corner with A and S - which was lovely, even if the boys did talk about sport :p
Spent our last day visiting Knut a baby polar bear at the zoo, visiting Kaiser Wilhelm Kirche and stuffing ourselves stupid at new restaurant on top level of Ka De Wee....then it was dinner with A and S again before our stay in Berlin came to an end way too soon.
Copenhagen was lovely. We didnt really do a lot just wandered the cute but dangerous little cobblestone streets. Went to Rosenberg Slot and saw the crown jewels....on our last night there went to an Absolut ice bar, which I will let jay explain, as he was just amazed...anyway, drinking vodka cockatils in -5 degrees out of ice glasses was awesome. but may have contributed in a small way to my run in with the cobblestones of copenhagen....
oops i forgot we also went to the famous Tivoli and went on the ferris wheel...awwwww :!
better go
