Traditional New Year Post

1. What did you do in 2022 that you'd never done before?
Finished a book draft! (Not the book I ever thought I'd write, and certainly not the quality I hoped it would be, but still a milestone)

2. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not this year.

3. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. A friend from college was shot on the NYC subway on his way to brunch.

4. What countries did you visit?
Mexico.

5. What would you like to have in 2023 that you lacked in 2022?
Hope for the future.

6. What dates from 2022 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I don't have memories anymore.

7. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Somehow maintaining a job on top of everything else while truly putting all my energy into the book.

8. What was your biggest failure?
My biggest failure is not physically moving enough. Seriously, remote work has been unhealthy for me. Also, I've been pretty inactive on the neighborhood scene (I feel a little guilty being a dead-weight board member on the parks committee, but the honest truth is that I just don't care about garbage-can designs that much.)

9. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing serious, but I did finally get Covid.

10. What was the best thing you bought?
I got an actual Klimt at the first real Seattle Art Fair since the lock-down. It's just a print and of course it's absurd on my wall near my laundry-basket, but whenever I wake up and see it, it makes me happy.

11. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My sweet boyfriend.

12. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My cousin who had her 17-year old son kidnapped and taken to a military/rehab type place in Utah.

13. Where did most of your money go?
Delivery food.

14. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a. Happier or sadder? Happier.
b. Fatter or Thinner? Fatter.
c. Richer or poorer? Probably poorer (if you count how much less my stock is worth now).

15. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I had spent more quality time with friends and more time outdoors. I spent SO MUCH time behind a computer indoors this year. I'm really looking forward to finishing the book edits and proofs and having this project and its deadlines be DONE.

16. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Smoking, then worrying about smoking, then worrying about worrying about smoking.

17. How many one-night stands?
I haven't changed my nightstands in years.

18. Did you fall in love in 2022?
YES!

19. What was your favorite TV program?
White Lotus

20. What did you want and get?
A relationship that lasted the entire year.

21. What did you want and not get?
A sense of pride and accomplishment in finishing my book draft. A sense of appreciation and worth at work.

22. What was your favorite film of this year?
First movie I watched in three years: Top Gun 2 (and it was everything I wanted it to be)

23. What did you do on your birthday?
I went on a cherry tree walk in Ballard with a friend and we saw the Shirotae and Yoshino, then I went to Tom's near Seward Park for dinner and he made the best scallops I've ever had.

24. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A solid schedule of vacations to look forward to. Dedicated time to work on my creative projects without worrying about a day job.

25. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2022?
Wacky, zany, eccentric cat-lady.

26. What kept you sane?
My kitty! How did I live without a cat before? Napping has never been so fun.

27. What political issue stirred you the most?
I guess we lost some women's rights this year.

28. Who did you miss?
Still miss my NYC girlfriends.

29. Who was the best new person you met?
I love all of Tom's friends: Sami, Carrie, Kore, Todd, etc.

30. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2022?
"Creativity is the creator's will for me."
