Reviews of films I saw at MIFF
THE SUBSTITUTE:
I enjoyed this film. I believe the Danes do have good skills in producing children films from what I've seen.
THE DEBT:
It was alright. Although I was glad that the female Mossad agent got to kill Dr Death from the Holocaust 30 years later, but he killed her too.
THE POPE'S TOILET:
I found this film a bit boring, actually.
EMPTIES:
A Czech film, which I found enjoyable. Some funny parts.
ASTERIX AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES:
Found it really enjoyable, so enjoyable that I want to get a DVD of this film once it's released.
BEN X:
Very interesting to watch the world through an Abserger Syndrome boy's eyes and how he couldn't cope with bullying etc.
JAR CITY:
Who would have thought that Iceland could make a good film. I found it gripping how genetic diseases could mean you're related at one point in time and the impact of losing loved one due to the disease as well dealing with guilt. Found one thing gross was that apparently eating sheep's brain is a norm in Iceland *shudder*
EVANGELION 1.0:
Found it a bit cold in term of human connection etc. Frankly, I don't want to watch this particular Anime ever again.
ALONE IN FOUR WALLS:
Interesting Russian documentary about boys in juvenile center. They call it a boarding school, though. It's staggering that 92% of those juveniles end up back in prison, this time a adult one. It's sad how many of them couldn't be rehabilitated, and start life anew.
THE STORY OF RICHARD O:
I along with many people in the audience walked out pissed because it wasn't captioned when it should be.
THE WAVE:
WOW! A German film. It had a impact on my enlightenment. I could, now, sort of understand why people belong to one group, however antisocial or whatever.
CARGO 200:
Again, it's a Russki film. Based on true events but it was so sadistic! I don't ever want to see this film or any form of sadism again.
GOMORRAH:
A depiction of how deeply entrenched the Mob are in Italy. Their arms goes every where into seemingly legitimate businesses as well illegal ones. It's obvious that it's impossible to eradicate the mob completely. I found it interesting that the Mafia are not like a full family, there's many clans under the control of the Mafia.
