How has everyone been? I'm doing A LOT better since my last entry so :)
I've started school for the semester and I've been busy busy busy. The good news is all my classes are interesting/challenging and I think I'm really going to learn a lot the next few months... if I don't die from exhaustion or from the amount of work I have to do first!
Here's what things are like so far:
- My Professional Cooking class is the intermediate level class, so we're focusing on refining and perfecting skills, speed and accuracy, time management, and presentation.
- My Mediterranean Cuisine class is going to be really cool and really yummy, because honestly, can you go wrong with food from that part of the world? Plus my chef for that class is a cheese aficionado so for every region we're doing she's bringing in a variety of cheeses for us to try... YUM!
- My Advanced Baking class is srs bsns. Like, SERIOUS BUSINESS. We're not messing around in there. We're doing hella work in a short amount of time and it needs to be like, perfect. She gave us the schedule and I just about barfed. SO MUCH WORK. Also, every person in every group has to take turns being "chef" for the week, and of course my two turns are on the two most creative weeks (plated dessert and cakes). Awesome, thanks chef.
- Finally, my last "class" is actually more work experience - in addition to our kitchen classroom, we have an on campus fine dining cafe that is staffed by student servers and cooks as part of the program. I'm in the wait-staff class this semester so twice a week I'm serving customers. I've actually never waited tables before so I was SUPER nervous last week, like, to the point of nausea. Thankfully, everything went fairly smoothly, I didn't spill on anyone or break anything so that was a success. This class also requires us to help serve for catering events we do on campus which kind of sucks because hey, I like my weekends. Oh well.
So that's school for the most part. Switching topics, I thought I'd do a little TV wrap up report:
- TRUE BLOOD: Sigh, what a mess this season was. The pacing was off, there were too many characters/subplots, the payoffs never quite justified the setups, and it was just overall not good. It took Sookie like what, 3 episodes to get to Jackson and she was there for another 2 or so before she was back in Bon Temps? Actually, they spent a lot of time getting everyone to Jackson just to have them escape. Not NEARLY enough Alcide, yet too much Debbie Pelt/other werestuff, Jason (and ugh, Crystal), Andy, Terry/Arlene etc. I get that there are a lot of characters in this show, but giving everyone a storyline in practically every episode becomes too much too quick, especially in the case of the weaker ones such as Jason's. I really could have lived without him this season. Even Sam's Shady Family Storyline should have ended much sooner than it did. Of course they underused Jessica and Pam, but I think I'd rather that than overexposure. In all seriousness, the writers really should watch The Vampire Diaries to better learn to pace the show because I got really tired of having nothing happen for like the first 45 minutes and then EVERYTHING happen in the last 10. Also, please learn to write a better season finale, thanks.
- RIZZOLI & ISLES Not gonna lie, I watched this show this summer because it has Angie Harmon in it. And Kate from NCIS. I never really loved it, there were a few good episodes, but I'm probably not gonna watch it next summer. As far as crime/police dramas went it was interesting but not amazing.
- COVERT AFFAIRS THIS SHOW I really liked. Fun, silly, interesting, over-the-top and ridiculous at times, but totally the perfect summer escapist drama. It's what you'd imagine working for the CIA to be like... which means of course that it's totally not like that at all in real life ;) Plus it has Mohinder in it, although I'm not gonna lie, not nearly as sexy without the British accent.
- THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: This show has gone from being my guilt pleasure to my must-watch show. It's surprisingly so good each week! So much happens that you never feel bogged down or bored with a particular storyline, but it's not too quick that you're like wait, what? The characters are fun, the supernatural creepy, and I pretty much live for the flashback episodes. The season premier was just what I was hoping for and I'm looking forward to seeing lots of Katherine this season!
- MERLIN: Hooray Merlin! You're back! I missed you! Oh, this premier was soo much better than last year's. Probably because it had Morgana being bwhaha evil and HBIC Morgause. I'm glad to see Arthur and Merlin's bromance is alive and well. I'm just so happy it's back!
Whew. I think I'm done for now. Hopefully I will be able to schedule in some time for LJ this semester. Tata for now.
