I wonder why it is that every time somebody lectures about a bad habit which I agree I need to work on (such as eating unhealthy foods, self-obsession, or overuse of the Internet), and they do it in a particular preachy way, my instinctive reaction is to reject their entire message.
Yeah, even when I agree in principle.
I know I'm not the only one who feels this way - apparently, when Emma Thompson heard that she was a celebrity whom Tony Blair felt was a good role model to children, her first reaction was the desire to snort a lot of cocaine.
It must be the preachiness. Or the healthier-than-thou tone. Yep, probably the latter (although maybe, for Emma Thompson, it had more to do with not liking Tony Blair). Not a good thing to do, I know - by all logic, I should, for instance, stop going online so darned much. And I know I'm committing the "package deal" fallacy. But...well, I guess I just dislike Moral Guardianism of all kinds a bit too much.
