Old news about news music

It's been quite a long time since I've watched an interview with James Horner, but I was bored today...and found two interviews with him about writing a new score for CBS Evening News. (Okay, it will be an old score by now. :) )

Generally, they just talk about all the same boring old stuff they do in any composer interview - for instance, how different writing music for film vs. writing for TV is, as well as bring up Horner's list of old achievements up all over again. But watching these made me realize again just what a freakin' nice guy James Horner is (and talented to boot). He's also really shy, and his mannerism and way of talking reminded me of me...however, in a rare moment, I was encouraged by that. It shows that even people like me may be able to achieve something great. :D

(I've heard people say he can be a jerk. But it's not like anybody is nice, or a jerk, all the time - I mean, heck, look at me. Believe me, I have been a jerk in the past.)

But the best parts were the ones that made me laugh. In the second video, Horner admits that he never watches TV and hasn't seen the CBS Evening News before getting this assignment, and the announcer says at the end that they have another mission for their show - "getting James Horner to actually watch." :D

cool stuff, music
