Giving thanks...

In Hood River again.

I was really nervous about coming over here. Granted, I had already met the important people before I started dating Russ, but meeting them again as the girlfriend is a little different. It was totally stressing me out, what do I wear, will they like me, what's okay to talk about, what if they think I'm a skank....

But now I'm here. And Russ's mom and I sat around this morning talking about homosexuality and swearing and how it relates to the Bible and morality, and then about teaching and socialism....and it was awesome. And I'm still a little apprehensive about meeting the rest of the family, but I think it's going to be okay.

The trip here was interesting though. We had a blowout a couple hundred yards from the Ontario exit and waited for a tow truck to come change the tire (because the jack I have is awful) and then went into town to Commercial Tire to get a replacement. The entire thing ended up costing us an hour and a half, but no money at all (since Commercial insures my tires and I have free roadside assistance). The only crappy part about it wasn't even that bad, just irritating. While we were pulled off the side of the road with our hazards on this cop pulled up behind us. Asked if we were alright, if help was coming, and then if we could pull a little further off the road. It was a little weird because he was a city cop and thus out of his jurisdiction, but whatever. Then he asked me for my license (I was in the driver's seat.) No big deal. Then he asks for Russ's license. Then he leaves and goes and checks them. What the heck? We didn't do anything at all, and I really don't feel like he has the right to run checks on us just because our tire blew out. A few minutes later another cop car pulled up behind him and another cop got out. I was a little freaked out....the first cop came back to the door, handed us back our licenses...and then asked us if we were carrying any weapons or illegal drugs he should know about. We said no, and he said thanks and went on his way. It was the most ridiculous thing ever. We passed him and the other cop walking on the side of the on ramp about fiteen minutes later. Strange cops...and the whole thing kind of pissed me off. I really don't feel like they should have had the right.

Then we drove into a pretty severe snowstorm in the pass and that was really kind of frightening. Put on chains, tried and tried and tried again to get them tight enough that they wouldn't bang against things, and then had to take them off about 8 miles later when the snow had cleared from the road. But oh God it was gorgeous when it wasn't freaking the hell out of me. I miss my winters so much....

I'm really happy. And really looking forward to having an entire weekend where I have nothing that I have to do. Where I'm going to go shopping (we're buying him some nice clothes) and go see a movie (hopefully...) and meet the best friend and the pastor. It should be really really nice.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I hope all of yours is as good as mine is right now.

Things I'm thankful for:
snow
trees
free roadside assistance and nice operators
nice families
a place to spend Thanksgiving
