If there is a gay male character, I haven't run across him yet. Of the two NPC engineers that work for Shepard, the male one seems quite heterosexual (and Scottish and adorable, but that's beside the point.)
Yeah, the sex-gore double standard definitely bugs me. I think what bugs me even more, though, is the gay sex-het sex double standard. Heterosexuality is suitable for all audiences (unless it's really explicit) but gay or lesbian content tends to get stamped 'Mature Audiences Only', even if they're not doing anything you wouldn't see the straight leads doing in a Disney film. I don't know if you've seen 'This Film is Not Yet Rated', but there's this one bit where they show side by side movie clips featuring straight couples and gay couples performing similar activities, and showing you what rating each movie got, and the 'gay' movie always has a more adult rating than the straight one: R instead of PG-13, NC-17 instead of R. It's like queer relationships are inextricably bound up with sex in peoples' minds in a way straight relationships aren't, and it just drives me up the wall.
