It really makes my day when I see there's a new chapter to this story. It started out in sort of a wish-fulfillment (boy, if that's not a loaded phrase...) in that we as fans wish there was more to the djinn-world, more to Dean and Carmen's relationship. Now, it's heartbreaking in a different way... I honestly don't know whether or not I want Dean to "get better." Especially in light of what we've seen on the show lately... Dean has always needed and wanted that stability, but lately it's not even "deep down" anymore--we can see that naked longing on his face. Sam, on the other hand, mourns what he lost as opposed to what he could never have, which is different. It's just as sad, but in a way, slightly easier.
And here, you've created this world that gives Dean what he craves and needs, but at what cost? His sanity? For real this time and not as a joke or a demon-trick? And if Dean's gone, what would that do to Sam? Actually, we've seen that, and it's not pretty. At the same time, though, why should we take away the little happiness they have? It all goes back to Dean's speech at John's grave...
Wow, that was a long way of saying: "I like; keep it up."
*wrings hands while laughing wickedly*... okay, so maybe not quite that bad, but I'm actually glad to hear you say you're conflicted on what you want to see happen. If I'm writing this sucker right, you're not SUPPOSED to want Carmen to go away, and yet she IS just an imaginary woman.
That's what I adored about WIAWSNB, seeing Dean living the life he secretly wants. Stable and full of love. I don't think there is enough fic written with Carmen in it in some capacity, personally.
Right down to it, I love Dean to pieces and want him to get what he wants and yearns for... and so I do in this fic. Kind of. In a really sadistic sort of way }:D
