A semester of firsts...

So, I'm officially done my first semester of teaching. I tell you, it's a little bit odd to watch the room empty at the end of a final... like you'd never been there, and nothing in the space marks your passage. It's... oddly contemplative.

But, there were other things that were "firsts" in this semester... proof that I'm becoming a "real" grown up...

This semester was the first time I did not misplace a single pen. I didn't lose them, or go to school without them. Every colour I needed, without fail, in my totebag. Also, likely as a result, I used up Bic pens for the first time. Two pink ones and a blue. (They're my marking pens... I'm still looking for orange if anyone has any thoughts... for some reason, I really want orange pens for marking...)

I also managed not to lose a single whiteboard marker all semester (they fit really well in the cellphone pocket) - and then have them both go missing in one day of high school debate.

It was also the first time I ever got the professional "If you need anything, call me" (because the friendship one isn't the same) - from Madame Tardif - who I must have seriously impressed, because she was Dean at Fac in my second year - and still remembers my name. (We actually went to the same conferences)

All in all... not a bad semester. Now my book grant comes in, and I get to do a lot of summer reading.
